Product Description Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass: Whipped Cream ...
Amazon.com After decades of being staples at flea markets and yard sales across the continent, the LPs Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass made in the '60s have been reissued with their original verve undiminished and sounding remarkably fresh. Taking things one step further is a new set of remixes. Those putting their hands are the faders include John King of the Dust Brothers, Mocean Worker, and Medeski, Martin & Wood. Alpert himself was an active participant in this project, adding some new trumpet solos amidst the snaky grooves and incessant beats. Not only will those familiar with the originals be dazzled by their transformations, but anyone new to these erstwhile million sellers will fall right in with the rhythmic drive and melodic hooks. --David Greenberger

enjoyed it July 5, 2008 James Huff (USA) enjoyed it. was a big fan of Herb Alpert and TJB. Saw them in concert in 1968 I think it was. Still have all those TJB Records. Ripped em to cd.
Delicious Ear Candy April 24, 2008 Jayson B. Little (Austin, TX) Great stuff! From start to finish nice and smooth. Everyone I've played it for has taken an interest.
Splendid! March 30, 2008 Monterrey J. Salazar (Riverside, CA) I am thoroughly pleased with the purchase of this album. There aren't many albums these days I'd pay money for, this one I would buy again in a second. I have the Lonely Bull and like the old Mexican brass style and such, but this remix is BRILLIANT. I must say that I am familiar with the works of Thievery Corp. and John Smith (Dust Bros.) so I wasn't particularly shocked with what I heard. I was overwhelmingly impressed! I have since acquired the original and must say it's much too campy for my tastes, almost dated. Half the tracks on it sound like game show theme songs. The old version aside, this album stands on its own. I feel bad that it hasn't gotten a chance from some people who felt it has somehow tainted the original. I don't know what they were expecting. Like another reviewer said, if they want that old TJB sound... Go listen to some old TJB. My sympathies towards this unfair rap had nothing to do with my five-star rating. I am rating this album based on it and it alone. The tracks are well produced, the sounds are rich and deep and the songs are coherent to each other. They aren't too different as you might otherwise expect from a multiple-artist re-hash. You owe it to yourself and to good music to buy this album. Listen to the samples if you aren't sure (that's what they're there for).
This is good stuff! January 1, 2008 Michael Sersig (Davenport, Iowa United States) I'm so glad this has been re-issued. My parents used to play the LP so I grew up with it. I guess that makes me kinda biased. None the less, this is a great CD that is a must for any Contemporary Jazz fan.
Not for the Alpert loyalists or the beat masters...... December 31, 2007 Brad Byers (Las Vegas, Nv. United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
As many here, I was expecting some exciting sounds on this re-mix project, but was disappointed by the continual down tempos. The producer must have "decided" that the older, senior Alpert fans would need slow tempos to get comfortable with a re-mix of their old favorites. Alpert's originals could have been re-done so much better than this. Bad decision making by somebody that was more concerned with who the audience would be, rather than the quality of updating the music.
