Amazon.com Young, aggro, and from Los Angeles--it's tempting to put Incubus in the already crowded category populated by Korn, System of a Down, and their other loud and heavy brethren. But that would sell Incubus short, because Make Yourself, the quintet's sophomore album, is a strong progression beyond their 1997 debut, S.C.I.E.N.C.E.. More like Faith No More than Limp Bizkit, Incubus still have that teen-mosh appeal, though the songwriting and instrumentation on Make Yourself is diverse and thoughtful, both lyrically and musically. "Drive" is an easygoing, slightly trippy acoustic-based outing, while oddball scratching (courtesy of DJ Chris Kilmore) and trip-hop funkiness make "Battlestar Scralatchtica" aptly titled. "Nowhere Fast" is vaguely 311-ish with a reggae tinge and lovely melodic interludes, in contrast to the furious intensity of "Out from Under," which gives Make Yourself a surprisingly cohesive diversity that's hard to categorize. Ultimately, singer Brandon Boyd is not a vocal genius, but lyrically and in performance, he's sensitive, charismatic, and unique. Ditto for the 13 cuts that make up Make Yourself. --Katherine Turman

What else can be said.. January 3, 2009 factory35 (usa) that hasn't already been said. I just listened to this classic again and had to put in my say. Its a great disc. Must have listened hundreds of times over the years. Refreshing, funky, deep, emotional and unique. They had a great vibe between this and 'Morning View'. Though their last 2 discs are quite good, there is more energy here. Not a Metal record, a Pop record or a Chili Peppers wanna be record. Incubus' brand of funk is different. The disc is 100% on the mark. Great pick if you don't have it yet.
Love this CD! December 12, 2008 Benjamin S. Cline (Bozeman, Montana) One of my top favorite CDs. I listen to it over and over. "Light Grenades" and "Morning View" are good too, but I still like this one the best.
Mind Bending November 28, 2008 David Allen Gaither What can I say that hasn't already been said about this album? Probably not much but I'll throw my 2 cents into the mix anyways. Although the musical talent of each member is absolutely bursting from all angles from start to finish, it was really Brandon's lyrical stylings that made this one of my favorite albums, and Incubus one of the most socially conscious bands of all time. I read review after review and I'm amazed at the number of people who don't really "get" what the lyrics pertain to. If you don't, I'd start figuring them out ASAP. It's hard to describe what kind of impact this album had on me... I still get chills. Absolutely unbelievable.
This CD is really awesome!!! November 6, 2008 Stephen R. Hannon (Massachusetts) This CD is really awesome and I like it every song on this CD is a really good song and it's Just an awesome CD I really like this album and there not a bad group at all I mean there other albums are probably really good but this one is one of the best CD's that they've ever come out with and I don't even think they are making music anymore but I could be wrong about that seriously I could be wrong about them not doing anymore albums but overall I would Reccomend this CD to anybody who's a fan of incubus and you could even send the group a friendrequest on www.Myspace.com I'm not going to add them as a friend because I've got enough bands on my friend space as it is and I may be adding more bands but as of right now I'm not sure if I'll be adding anymore bands as a friend on my Myspace but I probably will be later on though but as of right now I won't be adding anymore bands as a friend as a matter of fact I think this is one of there best albums yet and I really mean that my favorite song on this CD has to be Drive I don't know why but I Just absolutely love that song and I think it's one of the best songs on this CD as well as the other songs on this CD the whole CD is really good but Drive is the best song on this CD and as I said before I like the song and I'm actually looking forward to them doing another album and if they do I may buy the album I may not buy the album it all depends on if there's any good songs on there new album and that's if they even do another album but in a sense I'm hoping that they do decide to do another album and if they do I may buy there new album if they do another.
Best Incubus CD !!!!! September 11, 2008 Elen Freitas (Brazil) I think this is the best Incubus CD. "Pardon me" and "The warmth" are their best records ever. Everybody should get this CD and listen to their music. Best band ever!!! Love them! These guys are amazing! Great musicians.
