IT AIN'T NO JOKE!!! December 29, 2008 NEOSOUL06 (Atlanta, Ga) The lyrics go: "I ain't no joke, I used to let the mike smoke, now I slam it when it's done to make sure it's broke!" C-mon, you have to admit, those were some serious lyrics for the time. In 1987 this cassette hit the streets; it was hot then and it's still hot now. This is the type of music that you put in your cd player at the house, tell the kids to move out the way so they can see how it's done! Eric B and Rakim are icons in their own right and that fact can never be denied. This is a great cd for the music lover and collector. If you are considering this cd, by all means buy it, you won't be sorry! NEOSOUL06.
Able to withstand the test of time! December 15, 2008 J. Ruiz (Houston, TX) I remember my reaction after listening to the Paid In Full cassette for the first time back when I was in high school. I just couldn't believe how catchy the beats and lyrical rhymes worked together. It was continuous flow of furious fun that could not be stopped during our weekend cruising activities. Eric B and Rakim will always have a place in my heart with their original musical creativity. The music is just as fresh today as it was back when it came out.
Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!! September 2, 2008 Joi C. (Philly) This is diffentely the CD that you want. Talkin about a blast from the past. Eric B and Rakim is a must have for any old school collectors. They put the "R" back in RAP. Get it now while you can because you may never have the opportunity to get it again, so get it while it's H.O.T. Joi from Philly
Worth Every Penny March 26, 2008 Bill Lumbergh (Initech) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The duo that consists of DJ Eric B. and MC Rakim isn't referred to as a classic for no reason. This CD is one of the biggest influences for the majority of hip-hop, and it shows. The beats are vintage late 80's style. Call it a bit dated, but it blends perfectly on this CD. Rakim's rhymes are pure genius, with his word play and his perfect flow to blend in with the production. The instrumentals play an important part for Eric B., and while you don't hear Rakim's smooth rhymes, it's still really nice. Believe the hype, this is a classic with groundbreaking beats for its time, perfect flow, and a perfect balance to top it all off.
An incredible album. February 1, 2008 Danny (South Philly) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Been on a bit of a hip hop kick lately. No, not hip POP. Hip hop. Real hip hop. I decided to break this one out and give it a spin and (surprise, surprise) it still holds up. The beats groove and the rapping is perfect, but you already knew that. This album has a "feel" to it that most of today's joke rappers couldn't even begin to comprehend where to start to mimic a scant 0.1% of it's magic. This is rap during a time when it actually meant something; the late 80's version of punk rock. Public Enemy, KRS, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, EPMD, Brand Nubian, etc. When it was about letting your voice be heard and not about how much more copies your piece of crap album sold than the competition's piece of crap or how many confused girls will appear in your glossy video. Paid In Full is REAL. Regarding the realness, you're not a real hip hop fan unless you own it. Support artists and leave the phonies by the wayside where they belong.
