| Synopsis:
In the hidden Antarctic base of The Ancients, the creators of the Stargates, a new discovery reveals the Pegasus Galaxy where the lost city of Atlantis lies. A team of explorers led by Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) embarks on a mission to investigate the city and bring back its secrets to Earth. The one drawback, however, is the team does not have enough power to return home. Believing there must be at least one planet in the Pegasus Galaxy that possesses the required technology, the crew passes through an unexplored network of Stargates in their endless quest to find a way back. |

great, but suffering. September 4, 2008 Kyle Thomas (usa) (before reading this, note: i love stargate, both series. this review only includes what i do not like) though i enjoy stargate atlantis. it suffers from something that has plagued the entire franchise from the beginning, even starting as early as season one of SG1. even the greatest episodes have this slow lengthy period at the the end, that involves nothing more then talking heads, sometimes poorly scripted talking heads. like we have to slow down and talk about everyone feelings. on the Atlantis pilot, the worst line is the last, something like "you know, that could get us in to trouble." its weak, but is short, so i can deal, but that is mostly what these "closing lines" consist of. the worst of, being "the broca divide" from SG1. the episode is good, but has one of the slowest boring endings. and their system for writing battles leaks through from sg1. this is how battles went in sg1: good guys shoot, we watch enemies die for a while. camera pans, its the bad guys turn to shoot. turn based action. i think this system carries through to Atlantis's way of presenting problems. something happens, Mckay solves, and guess what, something else happens, didn't see that coming. at least they got rid of the dinosaur carter, just because some people cant deal with canceling SG1 after ten years (the show was dead anyway, after Richard dean Anderson quit) is no reason to bring over someone that i would say was the most replaceable character of SG1. even that aside, her character never had enough depth to say anything new after ten years. her saying pissy lines was mildly entertaining the first dozen times, we don't need to see it even more. something about Tayla says "give me fewer lines!" Ronan too, that was the whole point of Ronan, man of few words, but now he is the friggin philosopher. and the caveman hunter Tayla, is a computer wiz? right. not saying she should be stupid, but come on, there is some word for how fast humans can except technology. and i think they forget were Tayla comes from. and their brilliant idea of, character episodes. though i love these actors, none of them have the strength to pull it off alone. Richard dean Anderson, or Micheal Shanks, they could handle it. but not any of atlantis, except maybe Joe Flanigan, and i think they have already done that. just stick with the group thing, its what they do best. though i admit, season 5 is turning out better then season four. which involved more cliches and SG1 reference then ever before.
Love it August 4, 2008 Robert Love it Need to be not DRM "Hate DRM" Die DRM!!!! Oh well anyway Love this show. hope it lasts Mant many more years. Needs a way to burn to a dvd so you can watch on a tv
another great tv series March 16, 2008 Michael E. Hyder this is a great series, i hated seeing sg1 end. but sga has done a great job taking it's place.
Love Atlantis March 12, 2008 Eric Bieze (san diego, CA) I love this show. Hope they keep making this show for years to come. Whis they would have done more for SG-1 for its end, but what can you do. Please keep those Atlantis shows coming.
Trio March 9, 2008 llp (Seattle, WA) This was one of those stand alone episodes that can be so much fun and this one definately was. Samantha Carter, Dr. McKay and Dr Teyla went off to a planet and fell into a mine shaft. The rest of the time is them trying to figure a way out why they slowly reveal themselves. It was a way to get to know Carter and Telya better. Excellent show. Sorry that Amanda Tapping is not coming back full time next season. Hope she is in more then just the first show. She is an excellent actress.
