Synopsis:

Happy Accidents is a comedy that pays tribute to the science fiction genre--specifically, the sub-genre of time travel. But here in this indie from IFC, the alternate reality is contemporary New York City where past and future experiences of trust, commitment and denial are cleverly put to the test. Lovelorn, recovering co-dependent Ruby Weaver (Marisa Tomei) has just about given up on finding the right man when she bumps into Sam Deed (Vincent D?Onofrio), a sweet newcomer from Dubuque, Iowa. They quickly fall for each other but almost as fast, their relationship takes a mysterious turn. Just as Ruby is beginning to relish her first ever ?healthy? relationship, Sam begins muttering about being a time traveler from the year 2470. With the advice of her therapist (Holland Taylor) and her best friend (Nadia Dajani), Ruby must decide if she and Sam have a future together. Is he truly Mr. Right or simply a charming lunatic with an overactive imagination? But soon it is too late?she?s already in love. With little time to spare, the two must discover if love can change their destiny.

2 out of 5 stars Good actors---weak story line   December 24, 2008
M. Brennan (USA)
The acting was superb but the story line was pretty weak. The movie would have been a lot better if it were a lot shorter. It seemed to go on and on and I guessed some of the surprises before they happened. Watch it if you're curious. I don't think it deserves all the rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Very romantic, sweet time-travel love story   October 31, 2008
Ms. Darcy (Los Angeles, CA USA)
Wow! I loved this movie! I never would have guessed that a romantic-comedy could double as a sci-fi flick, but Happy Accidents does just that beautifully. I've always been a fan of Marisa Tomei's so it's no surprise that I thought she was great in this -- all of the actors were terrific.

The story is romantic and sweet, but with substance. It's a thinking girl's (or guy's) romantic-comedy. I found myself rooting for the main characters, no matter how implausible their plight because that's what good movies are supposed to be able to do: move the audience into suspended belief.

If you want a romantic, feel-good movie about the power of love, you can't do better than this.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES!   October 30, 2008
Jane Doesn't Sleep (Arizona)
Very romantic, probably more of a chick flick, but think guys would like it too. Very different, quirky type plot, great actors.

5 out of 5 stars If You See Even One Bad Rating- IGNORE IT!   October 11, 2008
Solaris Moon (Seattle, WA)
This is a beautiful story and completly unexpected. I had no idea from the opening couple of minutes that this movie would turn out to be so wonderful. It left a real impact on me, one of those movies that makes you think about life and feel good about everything. Do not miss this movie. The acting was great, the story was fantastic, lots of familiar faces to add a real legitimacy to it. Unbelievable in every way. I can say without hesitation this is THE best movie I have seen in years.

4 out of 5 stars Happy Accidents is a real gem   October 10, 2008
Ron Lockhart (Boca Raton, FL USA)
I'm a Marisa Tomei fan, so I was inclined to like this movie, but I was unprepared for its inventiveness and clever scripting. Ms. Tomei's performance was nuanced and engaging as was Vincent D'Onofrio's. This is essentially a two character play, and without their ability to make us believe in what we're seeing, the whole movie would dissolve into drivel. While that might be true of almost any movie, this one in particular has a plot that's a bit far fetched, so credibility is central to enjoying and appreciating this film.

I promise you, unless you're a dyed-in-the-wool meanie, you'll just love this story and the two performances that deliver it. This is really an undiscovered gem of a movie.

Highly recommended.
