| Synopsis:
In this episode of Breed All About It we explore the wide world of Labradors, thought to be the most versatile of breeds or your "All Purpose" dog! First we meet Cyrus, your happy-go-lucky family pet. His jobs are numerous: collecting the newspaper, finding misplaced rocks tossed away by his owner, and retrieving an endless number of tennis balls. His work is never done, but he always looks good doing it. Though tennis balls are fun, Elvis retrieves different flying fare. He's a three year old master hunting retriever! Trained by Jack Jagoda of Deep Run Farms, Elvis has been trained to retrieve birds, buoys or anything required of him. He retrieves what he sees, as well as what his handler directs him to. He can also retrieve by smell! Stepping back in history, we discover the Labrador Retriever is a relatively new breed. Nineteenth Century English sailors first brought Labrador ancestors home from Newfoundland. English Retrievers and other hunting hounds were cross bred into the line to create today's Labrador standard. Anne Evans is very familiar with that standard and competes with her dog Indigo in the Bare Bones Specialty Competition in Leesburg, VA. Indigo is a good example of the standard and wins her class. Anne breeds her dogs not only for the physical standard, but for good dispositions. The Labrador personality is the key to its popularity at home, in the field and working as a guide dog. |

Dachshund Breed all about it January 5, 2008 Joanne (Upstate NY) Nice overview of the dachshund breed. A must see for someone who is considering a dachshund as a pet but has never owned one... or been owned by a dachshund. I would have liked to have seen more mention of some of the other performance events that dachshunds compete in, like field trials, rally, obedience, tracking & agility.
