Amazon.com A host of new faces--and new dangers--await Lt. Zeke Anderson and the men of Bravo Company in the second season of the gritty Vietnam War drama Tour of Duty. Joining the cast for the sophomore season are Kim Delaney as war correspondent Alex Devlin, and Dan Gauthier as chopper pilot Lt. Johnny McKay, who would transport B Company to the jungle from their new base at Tan Son Nhut. But the changes between the first and second seasons went beyond cast and setting--the series took a much closer look at the emotional toll of the war on its soldiers, with episodes devoted to Ruiz (Ramon Franco) suffering a breakdown, grunts contemplating (and committing) suicide, and Bravo's men dealing with incompetent and even dangerous fellow soldiers (Michael Madsen stars as a sniper with a taste for violence in "Sleeping Dogs"). Of course, the action and tension that caught audiences' attention in Tour's debut season is still in effect, abetted by a touch of romance (Miguel Nunez's Taylor pairs with guest star Angela Bassett, as do Gauthier and Delaney), and the excellent scripting and performances by Terence Knox (who would win the Viewers for Quality Television's top acting award for this season) as Anderson and the rest of the cast. The four-disc set compiles all 16 episodes from the second season; unfortunately, no extras are included, and much of the incidental music featured in the original broadcasts has been replaced due to copyright issues. However, neither should deter series fans from revisiting this exceptional series. --Paul Gaita

TOD Season 2 October 28, 2007 Ernest Caldwell Jr (Charlotte, NC) Season 2 is good, & definitely worth adding to your collection if you're a fan of the TOD show. I found Season 1 & 3 to be much better however. Season 2 has a # of episodes that are rather soap opera like. That could be a good thing however, if you want the wife to watch the show w/you. "I Wish It Would Rain" is an episode in this season that is more like those in 1&3, & other episodes are good as well, its just not as good of a season as the other two.
Poor Quality September 8, 2007 HankSter (Area 51) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree with a previous poster, the quality is pretty poor. Such a shame for one of the Best shows to hit the air waves in the 80's. As many have mentioned about the music, how would you like to watch Miami Vice (also one with great sound) with a completely different soundtrack ? The video portion needs some remastering ..... period !!!
The best season February 17, 2006 Johnny R. Johnson (Houston, TX) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have all three seasons of Tour of Duty and this season is definitely the best. The introduction of new characters and a love interest definitely makes for some interesting situations in this season. There are more missions and more action comparatively as the group gets into the meat of their tours and the show starts to focus on what happens physically and mentally to the men as their tours progress. The discs are easy to navigate and I really like the play all feature so you can just crank through The only negative thing I have to say about the entire series (seasons 1-3) is that they dub in new music instead of the original music from when it originally played on television.
the music sucks February 3, 2006 S. J. Ates (Pearl, MS) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've borrowed the second season of Tour of Duty from a friend. On the box it says in english "Includes a new music soundtrak of popular songs from the Vietnam War era". I doubt very seriously, that people during the 60's and 70's listened to synthetic instumentals, that barely even sound like the original songs they cover.Dont get me wrong I enjoy watching the show again, and I'll continue watching the rest of it. But, I refuse to but it untill they release copies with the originall music soundtrak. These copyright issues are ridiculous, and so is the greed from all these companies who own the music. I think those SOBs have more than enough money to spare to let us fans, who enjoyed the original shows with the original music, enjoy it again. The actuall music makes it seem alot more real to us so please bring it back.
