Amazon.com Company B's harrowing experiences as a combat unit during the Vietnam War come to a close with Tour of Duty's third season in 1989, which marked the end of this critically acclaimed television series. The episodes contained in this set are among the most dramatic of the entire program's run, as established and new characters alike meet the brutal realities and futility of the war head-on. Departing from the regular cast this season is Kim Delaney's Alex Devlin, but among the recurring players is Carl Weathers, as by-the-book Col. Brewster; Kyle Chandler (Early Edition) as Pvt. Griner; Greg Germann of Ally McBeal as the ill-fated Lt. Beller; and Lee Majors as a world-weary and middle-aged PVC (his son Lee Majors II also appears as his character's son in "Three Cheers for the Orange, White and Blue"). Story-wise, it's a downbeat season, with episodes delving into the My Lai massacre (a multi-episode arc beginning with "A Bodyguard of Lies"), racial tension ("Odd Man Out"), and finally, the challenges facing vets upon their return to the States (season closers "The Raid" and "Payback"). The solid, unsentimental writing and performances that earmark the series as a whole are in full effect in all 20 episodes of season 3, which netted an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Sound Mixing, and a Viewers for Quality Television Award for series lead Terence Knox. As with the previous Tour of Duty boxed sets, season 3 offers no supplemental features, and replaces the period pop music that dotted the show's soundtrack with a generic incidental score. While unfortunate, neither factor should prevent viewers from exploring this excellent show. --Paul Gaita

Good Box Set January 6, 2009 L. Holewczynski (Somewhere in the midwest) I ordered this for my husband who was a huge fan when this show was on TV. He is very pleased with all three box sets that he received.
Great Series September 7, 2008 B. B. Stratz (Kentucky, USA) I bought all three series of Tour of Duty for a friend and he loves it. He says he watches it over and over. I think everyone will enjoy Tour of Duty.
tour of duty all three seasons March 28, 2008 AJM, FL (FL) My husband was an Infantry Officer and Helicopter Pilot in the Vietnam War. This series seems to be very realistic and I am realizing what he must have gone through as a young man. I am very pleased with the presentation and sad at the same time.
Excellent Series January 10, 2008 Thomas E. Last (Oil City, PA) I received the DVD in excellent condition and in a very timely manner. I have enjoyed watch these episodes very much. I enjoyed the series while it was on TV and was sad when it was removed. I would continue to purchase products from this seller in the future.
Worth watching January 6, 2008 Janet Brown (Claremore, OK) I found I didn't remember but a few things from when this was on tv but we couldn't stop watching this and was so sad to see it end. We wished Anderson and Goldman had finally gotten out of that hell hole. They really did a great job protraying the problems during the Vietnam War. I liked how before each show a true statement was made and then the show wrapped itself around it. I was absolutly shocked when I saw the knives the guys had. See my Marine son was home for xmas when I got this dvd set and he showed us a knife given to him from a Marine that had been in Vietnam. Its the very same knife used in this show! Despite the fact they didn't use the orginal soundtracks it was still a good Vietnam story and you find yourself rooting for the guys! I wish they had done a movie of them having a reunion at the age the actors are now with flashbacks and how they were living today. Kyle Chandler was as handsome and a good a actor then as he is now in Friday Night Lights. As this season ends you really understand the feelings they had when some of them went back to the USA to a "normal" life.
