Product Description Can a wanna be cowboy from Japan come between two girls in love? No Ogawa (Hiromoto Ida) has big dreams of living life as a cowboy. To fulfill his fantasy, No Ogawa sets off for the rolling prairies of the Canadian West, in search of the perfect cowgirl... his child hood pen pal Kate (Christina Hirt). Trouble is, Kate prefers cowgirls to cowboys. Now a sophisticated artist Kate lives with her lover Shelly (Jane Mortil) and wants to leave small town life and her match making mother behind. Punctuated by hilarioius "Wild West" dream sequences and filled with endearing characters, Tokyo Cowboy is a fantastic comedy of cross cultural misunderstandings and sexual confusion.

Wonderful! November 28, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is wonderful film. The wide-open wonder of the Japanese fella looking for his dream is a delight. While the story focuses on the story of his Canadian girlfriend, he's the one that holds it all together. He's a character to root for.
great Canadian movie! June 29, 1999 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
My partner and I really enjoyed this movie. A young Japanese man heads to Alberta to meet his childhood penpal and to fulfill his dream of becoming a cowboy. Never mind that he and his penpal have not corresponded in quite some time and he has no idea she is a lesbian! His newness to the English language, his friend's fear of being "outed" and her mother's trying to set them up make for some comedy. Full of gentle Canadian humour, eh.
