The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior is a dazzling prequel to the 2002 adventure movie The Scorpion King, the latter starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Mathayus, the warrior who takes on an evil army attacking his homeland. The Scorpion King 2 stars Michael Copon as a young Mathayus, who trains to become one of his king's warriors and then declares vengeance on the evil Sargon after the latter kills Mathayus' father. The hero's ascension as a noble fighter coincides with Sargon's usurping of the throne, leading Mathayus to seek a supernatural means to destroy him. His quest leads him to the infamous labyrinth in which the Minotaur feasts on men, and to the underworld itself, a horrifying place in which people become ensnared and die very slowly. Accompanied by a childhood friend-turned-warrior (Karen Shenaz David) and a philosopher-huckster (Simon Quarterman), Mathayus bravely but uncertainly battles through one obstacle after another to complete his journey. Directed by Australian filmmaker Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction), The Scorpion King 2 is a suspenseful and sometimes startling feature, with art direction and special effects that evoke the mysteries of ancient Greece and indeed make the underworld look like a most unearthly and nightmarish place. --Tom Keogh

The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior (Full Screen)

Low budget sequel, interesting, with lots of action.

1 out of 5 stars Where is the half star for rating?   October 1, 2008

this movie is crap!
Stars: who are these kids? They don't even know how to act. And this scorpion king has NO relations to the previous movie of the Rock.
Story: dumb!
Costume: what a joke! you can buy their exclusive costume in such a charity for Halloween!
I'm awfully regret my time spent on this piece of work!

1 out of 5 stars SUCKS as in S-U-C-K-S   September 26, 2008

Let me be honest, I didn't buy the DVD. After all, I was disappointed by the first instalment, so I expected even less from the second one. It seems that Hollywood usually makes the later worse than the first, no matter they are prequel or sequel to the others (Hellboy is another example, and who could forget Star Wars!). After all, a movie comes straight to DVDs should smell fishy, shouldn't it? Can't expect any better than Sci-fi channel's original movie (if they even bother to show this film). Aside from the bads (plot, costumes, oh well, everything!), what ticked me the most was whether these people bothered to find a suitable actor for leading role? Surely the guy was a little more muscular, better-looking than me, but he seemed to be busy with trying to act cool and look pretty. He's better in a fashion show than in film biz.
I was getting sick of chinese-style fighting sequel that Hollywood overdosed lately. Having watched Hongkong martial art flicks since I was a kid, I know a thing or two that they incoporated real martial art to films. Hollywood did it but more like they put dancing in fighting.... Ahhh, irritated!
Anyway, save the money for gasoline, and use two hours you planed on this DVD for something more useful. This film is junk!

3 out of 5 stars OK, not great   September 20, 2008

This movie was entertaining, but not as good as the origonal. It had less action and seemed corny at times. Also, the special effects seemed fairly low budget.
