Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the casino, along comes the Griswold family from the popular series of National Lampoon's Vacation movies, raising a ruckus in the now family-friendly gambling capitol of the world. Clark (Chevy Chase), the bumbling Griswold patriarch, gets into his usual quota of trouble--especially on a sightseeing trip to the Hoover Dam (where puns on the word "dam" come fast, furious, and idiotic). Meanwhile, Mrs. Griswold (Beverly D'Angelo) gets to sing an ear-piercing rendition of "Lovin' You" on stage with her idol, Wayne Newton (one of the movie's comedic highlights), while son Rusty poses as a high roller and daughter Audrey trains as an exotic dancer. Randy Quaid reprises his scene-stealing role from the original Vacation movie, but let's face it--the series had already worn out its welcome, and this belated sequel earns a few good laughs but hardly qualifies as a worthy revival. Not bad as no-brainers go, but not up to par with the original film, and its better sequels like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Vegas Vacation   November 3, 2008

The last of The National Lampoon's movies. Not as good as the others, but still enjoyable. Different kids again.

4 out of 5 stars Chevy still has it   September 19, 2008

Don't listen to anything anyone else tells you--Chevy Chase still has it after all these years. He is a great physical comedian, and he still delivers successfully, even in the last of the REAL National Lampoon Vacation films. Remember that the real running joke in the Griswold family films was that the kids were always played by different actors and their ages were never really established, nor did they ever really age.

2 out of 5 stars Not a jackpot!   June 4, 2008

Vegas Vacation is the last of the franchise and probably the second worst. Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo look completely bored in this one, glad they didn't make another Vacation after this box-office flop. Randy Quaid reprises his role as the annoying and vile Eddie. The whole Vegas premise seemed like a good idea but to my chagrin this film isn't priceless.

5 out of 5 stars It's vegas baby!   December 13, 2007

Awesome movie! Funny, very-well paced, charming. Overall
outstanding, even a nose better than X-mas vacation! "Why don't you just give me half of what you were going to bet, I'll take you outside, kick you in the nuts, and we'll call it a night!" The work they did on the soundtrack/sound editing on this movie is tremendous, it adds so much to the humor and atmosphere, outstanding work!

2 out of 5 stars About "family pictures"   September 16, 2007

This is the first Vacation entry without John Hughes and sorely misses his creative spark. Several scenes have the characters remind us, (usually Chevy} "can't we do something nice as a family once more?" Nudity and profanity are controlled. Rocks, paper and scissors are played like kids do on a church youth group bus. Dino DeLorentis once said, "I made a family picture once. My family came to see it and everybody hated it." I am not against good family pictures. Make one because you really want one. But people having an unwanted family picture like this should consider an abortion.
