Amazon.com The long-running series Avatar the Last Airbender comes to a dazzling conclusion in Book 3 Fire, Volume 4. Poised for quite a number of episodes (seen in previous volumes) to go to war against the tyrannical Fire Nation, Aang the young Avatar and his cohorts must now bring down the Fire Lord and his army, or watch them ramp up their destructive powers during an imminent solar eclipse. But there's a lingering question only Aang can answer: can the Avatar, who has never killed anyone, bring himself to take the Fire Lord's life? That is what he must do, according to Zuko, the Fire Prince who has thrown in his lot with Aang and the latter's friends. While Aang is sorting that out--receiving various wisdoms from past Avatars and advice from a giant turtle-lion creature--Zuko and Katara take another leg of the battle by confronting Zuko's crazed sister. Meanwhile, Sokka re-asserts his latent talent for commanding dangerous missions as he and earth-bender Toph attempt to sabotage Fire Nation airships. The final episodes on this disc are thrilling, in no small part because they have been so long in arriving. Before those, however, there are a couple of interesting chapters to get through, including "The Southern Raiders," in which Katara attempts to exact revenge for the disappearance of her mother. As always, there's some comic relief, in this case "The Ember Island Players," in which our heroes experience the ignominy of watching some of their previous adventures become a ridiculous, staged play. --Tom Keogh

Great story September 6, 2008 Melzoop (Seattle) Two guy friends of mine told me they watched this with their kids and it was great. My teenaged son and I started watching and it is one of the best stories I've seen in a long time. We've watched all the episodes, and will watch them again. I highly recommend this to any age, young or old.
Hmmmmm September 5, 2008 B. Robinson (Chicago, IL USA) This was overall a great series. The ending is a little weak - like the writers ran out of ideas. There are still a lot of unanswered questions so that leads me to think there maybe more to come. Without giving any of this ending away, I pose the question of whether the air nation finds rebirth in the mist of end of the tyranny? The one thing that makes this weak is the switching back and forth between being on the quest and shucking off time like the end of the world is not near. But much of the action will wash all the knit picking thoughts away and you will enjoy it.
Avatar The last Airbender September 4, 2008 Bridget Stephens This DVD arrived on time and was great to watch. Although I wish they could of showd what happened to Zuko and if he found his mother. Also what happened to Azula I mean does she go to prison or does she just leave or loose her firbending abilities? But otherwise it was a great DVD to watch.
So this series has come to an end... September 1, 2008 M Many things were off the hook, especially Aang's battle with Ozai. That was filled with so much pwnage. There were several things in this DVD that were one-star for me. Mind you, this is a commentary only on the episodes this DVD, not the rest of the series. - The ending with the kisses. Ruined it for me, really. There should have been no kissing, it just added kitschiness to the whole ending. - Plot inconsistencies within the last few episodes (Ember Island Players, Southern Raiders) It feels to me that the writers simply weren't paying attention and didn't care to tighten up the plot. - Many questions left unanswered. The fate of Ursa? Long Feng? The Earth King? The White Lotus? Chit Sang? Teo? Again, it feels like the writers got sloppy. Tsk tsk... Other than that, the eps were decent. Good animation, and plot holes aside, there were humorous/memorable moments. So overall, when you add the good stuff and bad stuff, this gets 3/5 stars. I really wish the writers had been more attentive and careful though.
Outstanding ending! And hope for more to follow! August 31, 2008 NK (Philadelphia) This whole series has been outstanding. I've come to know it as an over 40 mother of a 7 year old and have been completely impressed with the whole series - I think I was more excited waiting for this installment than my son was. I was sad thinking this would be the end but the very last minute left the hope that more could follow, The series is much more than just martial arts, though it handles that very well - it's about character development and inter-relationships - it has serious plot development carried through from beginning to end. Every dvd has been pre-ordered and I can recommend the whole series highly enough for both adults and children.
