Product Description When a little bird with a big personality sets out to find the loving girl who raised him he discovers his way with words has a way of landing him in big trouble. But as fast as he can talk himself into a fix he finds his gift of gab heart full of hope and an odd menagerie of human friends. Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 02/08/2005 Starring: Jay Mohr Cheech Marin Run time: 92 minutes Rating: Pg Director: John Roberts
Amazon.com The human beings are almost as interesting as the title character in this surprisingly subtle and engaging film about the cross-country adventures of a smart-mouthed parrot. As director John Roberts deploys the footage, the bird becomes a vivid personality; every quizzical twist of his head is oddly expressive. The people who interact with Paulie are a quirky and interesting bunch as well, and the casting is topnotch: Tony Shalhoub (The Siege) as a Russian immigrant janitor, Cheech Marin as an open-hearted mariachi musician, and Gena Rowlands as a widowed painter in a footloose Winnebago--all are vividly eccentric individuals, memorable in their own right. There are some tired swipes at the cold-blooded meanies of Big Science (beady-eyed researcher Bruce Davison has Paulie clapped in irons), but for the most part the film respects the complexity of everyone's motivations, and that's virtually unheard of in today's Hollywood, even in films supposedly designed for grownups. --David Chute

my mother's favorite! December 18, 2007 Leigh A. Moore (KY) Great family movie- funny, heartwarming, entertaining. Just bought it for my mother (40 yrs old) this Christmas.
Paulie July 13, 2007 John Farr Charming family feature directed by John Roberts benefits from a sly, funny script that helps the movie avoid a case of the cutes. Top-notch casting also helps, with Marin and Rowlands both stand-outs. Also credit Roberts and Mohr with making Paulie an unusually expressive parrot- an adorable character we can actually root for. Parents needn't squawk about "Paulie": the movie rewards kids and adults in equal measure.
Great Service May 19, 2007 JoAnna Garnham (Phoenix, Arizona) I received my DVD really quick from sender. I will use their service again.

This is just a delightful and inspring family movie. The actors all support the plot. The lessons are well illustrated. The concern for animals is strong without being dogmatic. Just a great 2 hours of enjoyment.
A movie I could send to my granddaughter! May 17, 2007 Marilyn Dalrymple (Lancaster, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Funny, intelligent, warm and touching - and a movie that wouldn't embarrass me if I were watching it with my 12 year old granddaughter. I'm mailing it to her immediately (she lives out-of-town). I really enjoyed this movie and I would recommend it to anyone, any age. It has something for everyone in it. I wish Hollywood would come out with more movies like this one. The actors are great and natural. The birds and animals in this movie are amazing.
