Stylish hip horror about a california beach community where a gang of toughs is really a nest of vampires. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 09/04/2007 Starring: Jason Patric Jami Gertz Run time: 97 minutes Rating: R Director: Joel Schumacher

This 1987 thriller was a predictable hit with the teen audience it worked overtime to attract. Like most of director Joel Schumacher's films, it's conspicuously designed to push the right marketing and demographic buttons, and granted, there's some pretty cool stuff going on here and there. Take Kiefer Sutherland, for instance. In Stand by Me he played a memorable bully, but here he goes one step further as a memorable bully vampire who leads a tribe of teenage vampires on their nocturnal spree of bloodsucking havoc. Jason Patric plays the new guy in town, who quickly attracts a lovely girlfriend (Jami Gertz), only to find that she might be recruiting him into the vampire fold. The movie gets sillier as it goes along, and resorts to a routine action-movie showdown, but it's a visual knockout (featuring great cinematography by Michael Chapman) and boasts a cast that's eminently able (pardon the pun) to sink their teeth into the best parts of an uneven screenplay. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Old school fun!   November 26, 2008

This is an old school goodie! The Frog brothers, Jami Gertz,it's all good. I was able to have my sons watch the movie the day before Holloween. They loved it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Blu-ray of a classic movie.   November 25, 2008

I could go on about the film's plot and all that other blather but with a film that's 21 years old I figure you already know that stuff. My review is for the Blu-ray disc itself. This one was done right! The transfer is beautiful! I saw things watching this version that I have never before noticed, like how the recently staked Marco's dried blood on the Frog brothers resembles sparkly fairy dust in the sunlight as they escape the cave; a nice nod to Peter Pan there. Good disc, worth adding to your Blu-ray collection.

5 out of 5 stars Love It   November 24, 2008

5 out of 5 stars Lost and Found   November 24, 2008
Amaranth (Northern California)
"The Lost Boys" is a true vampire cult classic. Before teenaged girls (and their middle-aged mothers) swooned for the dysfunctional Edward and Bella, "The Lost Boys" camped up the entire genre. It's the quintessential '80s movie.

Michael (Jason Patric) and his little brother Sam (Corey Haim) move to Santa Carla, "Murder Capital of the US" with their ditzy mother (Dianne Wiest). It's actually the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk,a perfect carnival setting. Michael is smitten with Star (Jami Gertz),a mysterious woman he sees on the boardwalk. It turns out she's the girlfriend of bleached blond David (Kiefer Sutherland,in his pre-24 days) David dares Michael to join him. In the meantime, Michael's mother is being wooed by a geeky video store owner, and Sam has met the Frog Brothers, vampire hunters, one of whom is Corey Feldman. Michael parties with David and his pals. He finds himself becoming one of the undead. Can he save himself and Star? Can they slay the head vampire?

"The Lost Boys" is pure camp. The gruesomeness is slight. There's the hilarious sequence where a shirtless, buff guy in tight purple pants plays the saxophone. There are the Frog Brothers' funny fake vampire comics. Michael is supposed to be like Jim Morrison of the Doors (that's why "People are strange" is the theme) There's a cheesy love scene between Michael and Star. It goes on.

With the "Lost Boys",you've found a cheesy camp vampire classic!

5 out of 5 stars I created a monster!   November 21, 2008

I purchase this dvd for my daughter who is a big goosebump fan, I remember this movie being a big hit when I was growing up, since I could not remember all the parts, I screen the movie first, before letting my 8yr old watch it, and thought it would be fine, it did not have any nudity, or sexual scenes except for one part which was very minor compare to whats on T.V today, there is one part of the movie that is a little gruesum, but it goes so fast it dosent have much impact. There is alot of humor which softens the movie, saying all that, my daughter absolutely loves this movie, she has watch it over 10times, I think she has a crush on David (Keifer Sutherland). I hate to have to disapoint her and tell her that David is all grown up now.
If you are consider getting this for a younger child please view it first, every child is different, I thought it was a great movie, but I know I couldnt show this to some of my childs friends.
