Where is the Pilates? April 18, 2008 dnk (Boston, MA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this because the reviews for the VHS version indicated that of the three releases in the series, this was the only one that contained Pilates. Guess what? It doesn't. The previous reviewer broke down the postures. I will add that there are some additions in both the One-Legged Dog and Pigeon that could be said to be modified Pilates, but that's really stretching it. Overall, this is a competently instructed yet vigorous workout, but it doesn't distinguish itself from the other form-focused vinyasa practices on the market. I'm pretty disappointed, because this was marketed as a yoga/Pilates fusion workout, and I had high hopes for what a company like Stott could produce. As I said, competently instructed, but nothing special.
Wonderful practice, some of my favorite yoga postures!! July 30, 2005 kat (Oregon United States) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
This is the 2nd (level 2) in a series of 3 DVDs. I have all 3 and they are all wonderful routines! You start with a very nice paced Sun Salutation, then move on to Twisted Prayer, Three-Legged Dog, Cat, Thread the Needle, Child's Pose, Reclining Butterfly, Dead Bug AKA Happy Baby ;o) pose, and Savasana. PJ o'Clair leads the 40 min. practice and gives enough instruction, but not too much. She's very direct as she leads the two women in the class. Very easy to follow, motivating, and soothing voice. Just an interior setting, so no nature in the back ground like Gaima DVDs, but that's alright. My only complaint would be that Savasana should be longer and instead of ending with soothing music, the Stott's pilates women (who is rather irritating) comes on and starts talking with the class. I like the whole series. The first one is great for those low energy days and provides good stretching. This second one is a good intermediate practice with some of my favorite postures. The third is a challenging practice for those days when I want a good workout and have lots of energy. PJ is a great instructor! Please check my other pages of yoga DVD reviews on amazon.
