1 out of 5 stars THE MONEY STEALING SPLIT SEASON BANDIT STRIKES AGAIN!   December 3, 2008

Once again, Paramount is trying to rob us with this split season nonsence. The show is 20 SEASONS LONG. CAN YOU HURRY IT UP A BIT? I see needing split seasons for the hour episodes but they aren't until approx. season 15. The best episodes are the color 1 hour episodes. I would like to see them again but at this stupid rate, as might as well start digging a hole up on Boot Hill. I LOVE the 3 part episode titled The Bullet, which is located in season 17. It made the series WONDERFUL. I don't have it on vhs and would like to see it before I die. But I'll be in Boot Hill then. This nonsence is taking forever. So HURRY UP.

Gunsmoke - The Third Season, Volume 1 continues the release schedule for one of television's alltime greatest television series. Beloved and revered, this series will always be considered one of the alltime best. Yes, because of its' longevity, but also because of the great acting, directing, and writing displayed on the series.

But still, I cannot recommend these sets. There is no excuse, no justification the studio can make for splitting a 20-season series up and dividing each season into multiple sets. It's greed, shortsighted, fear of producing full season sets that won't sell - maybe one or more or all of these things. But the Western lover, loyal as we are to our favorite stars, our favorite movies and series, are being made to pay a price that is way too high to pay. To think how long it may be before the entire series is released is too painful. Suffice it to say that it will be WAY TOO LONG at the current rate.

At this point, it is probably too much to expect the studio to come to its senses. But it is worth it to say that they need to come to their senses, and soon.

5 out of 5 stars Paramount announces Gunsmoke: The Third Season, Vol. 1   September 22, 2008

Good news for Gunsmoke fans who feared an end to this production was inevitable due to poor reviews, Season 3, Volume 1 is on its way! The split seasons, though unnecessary, isn't nearly the problem reviewers imagine it to be, the problem lies in the snail-paced speed in which they are released. Of course, this doesn't bother me nearly as much as it does most, because my wait is for the first six seasons with those tight, half-hour episodes featuring the great Dennis Weaver. I'll take what I can get after that, but as long as the first six seasons are put out there, I will then be happy. Also, it is senseless to give a product 1 star simply because you wish there was more of it sooner. If the product itself is satisfactory, it is inappropriate to slap it with 1 star, possibly driving people away who simply want to buy the second or third seasons of Gunsmoke. All Gunsmoke sets thus far have been top quality, other than the mistake of the missing episode from Volume 1 of Season 2.

Have not and will not buy...One dud star for Paramount...

Any insight/feedback regarding the company DVD Media Star and their product listing (or any of their DVD listings for that matter) for the Complete Gunsmoke Collection would be welcome. Supposedly all 20 seasons/635 uncut episodes are available on 99 DVDs for $187.95. Seems this would have "bootleg" written all over it; chopped up, poor quality etc., etc..."a disaster on disc(s)."?! The link is below.

The best western television show ever made. I wish it was released in larger increments: I'm almost 49, and i really would be willing to buy all the seasons at one time.
