Amazon.com Shrek 3-D Made for a ride at Universal Studios, this 16-minute short reunites the cast in a quick adventure set in-between the two films. The dimmed-witted henchman Thelonius kidnaps Princess Fiona on her honeymoon and runs through spooky a grave yard, forest, and river with Shrek and Donkey in pursuit. The film's 3-D effects are fun (glasses are included and the film can also be viewed traditionally), but the movie is never more than a smile-inducing short; it's not as fun as the features. The ride, called "Shrek 4-D," features in-theater effects that audiences can see, hear, and feel. You will have to do your own effects at home to simulate the ride. Shrek William Steig's delightfully fractured fairy tale is the right stuff for this computer-animated adaptation full of verve and wit. Our title character (voiced by Mike Myers) is an agreeable enough ogre who wants to live his days in peace. When the diminutive Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) evicts local fairy tale creatures (including the now-famous Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and the Gingerbread Man), they settle in the Orge's swamp and Shrek wants answers from Farquaad. A quest of sorts starts for Shrek and his new pal, a talking donkey (Eddie Murphy), where battles have to be won and a princess (Cameron Diaz) must be rescued from a dragon lair in a thrilling action sequence. The story is stronger than most animated fare but it's the humor that makes Shrek a winner. The PG rating is stretched when Murphy and Myers hit their strides. The mild potty humor is fun enough for the 10-year-old but will never embarrass their parents. Shrek is never as warm and inspired as the Toy Story films, but the realistic computer animation and a rollicking soundtrack keeps the entertainment in fine form. Produced by DreamWorks, the film also takes several delicious stabs at its crosstown rival, Disney. --Doug Thomas
Description This two-pack contains the single-disc, full-screen version of "Shrek" plus a new 15-minute short, "Shrek 3-D," plus 3-D glasses. Shrek 3-D: When we last left everyone's favorite newlyweds Shrek and Fiona, they were singing and dancing late into the night with Donkey and all the fairytale creatures. Happily ever after...right? Not so fast: The honeymoon has barely begun when Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) is ambushed by Lord Farquaad's (John Lithgow) henchman, Thelonius. A dizzying and hilarious chase ensues with Shrek (Mike Myers) and Donkey (Eddie Murphy) hot on the trail! More action, more adventure, more fun that picks up right where Shrek left off...and drops you off laughing and out-of-breath before "Shrek 2" begins!

Bridging the Gap. September 5, 2006 tvtv3 (Sorento, IL United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This 2-DVD set includes both SHREK and a 16-minute short entitled SHREK 3-D. SHREK has been written about enough before, so there's really no point in saying more here. Besides, just about everyone who will be buying this item will be buying it for SHREK 3-D anyway. SHREK 3-D is a short animated segment that takes place right after SHREK. It bridges part of the gap between SHREK and SHREK 2. Shrek and Fiona are preparing to leave on their honeymoon, but before they can get very far Fiona is kidnapped. Shrek and Donkey race off to rescue her and are led into a creepy cemetery where they find the "gravestone" of Lord Farquad. Turns out Farquad is just a big of conniver as a dead ghost as he was alive. He's led Shrek and Donkey there to meet their doom while he also kills Fiona by throwing her over a waterfall so that she will be his queen in the underworld. The short doesn't add much to the Shrek series (though it does show how Farquad is eliminated for good), but it is entertaining. SHREK 3-D comes with a set of 3-D glasses, but the short can be watched as a normal cartoon as well. The short is actually a ride at Universal studios, but even before that the events of this little cartoon where distributed on a promo cd a year and a half before SHREK 2 was released. Overall, this is a good deal for one's money. You get the original SHREK as well as the bonus DVD of SHREK 3-D. Now, go make some waffles.
It's A Great Movie But This DVD Only Shows It In An Edited Pan & Scan Format! October 14, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Shrek is great movie especially when it's shown in widescreen! This DVD set only has the pan & scan version and not the widescreen version and the 3D movie is just a short movie from a ride at Universal Studios that is only about 15 or 16 minutes and if you are looking for the widescreen version of Shrek you will be disappointed and you would be better off buying the DVD set that has Shrek in both widescreen and pan & scan and also a 3D movie seen on a regular TV will not work like it does in a theater that uses special equipment and special effects so 3D glasses with a TV set will not cut it!
If you like 3-D movies and Shrek October 10, 2005 Jason M. Davis 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
The 3-D movie was short, but the 3-D was good. Unfortunately there are very few 3-D movies out there so I was exited to see that this came with Shrek. Since I was going to buy Shrek anyway it worked out well. I have watched it many times since I bought it. If you like Shrek and you like 3-D movies you will be happy with this package. However, if you already own Shrek it is not worth it just for the 3-D movie alone since it is so short.
