1 out of 5 stars Just the annual re-pack again   November 25, 2008

Pros: The box is attractive.
Cons: You probably already own these several times over.

To those defenders and 5-star reviewers, bear in mind this is a product review, not a film review. I'd be first in line for the Blu-ray or even and remastered (non-SE) DVD editions.

Unfortunately this will make a ton of money (Georgie knows this). As anybody else who grew up with Star Wars then you know that these films have been turned into a joke. Any of us who went to see the "updated" re-release in theaters knew the second that Greedo shot first that the Star Wars universe was forever destroyed. If you want to polish things up then fine but changing the entire story and persoanlity of characters is unforgivable.

Yes, I know, he is FINALLY including the original versions without all the garbage but who cares. Pull out your VHS tapes and ignore another average Star Wars release. It's time to STOP giving him more money. Remember what happened the last time he made millions? Yup, the Phantom Menace and nobody wants that again. Only you can prevent George Lucas from make Star Wars worse then it has already become.

2 out of 5 stars Another Re-hash From the Flim-Flam Man Named George Lucas   November 20, 2008

If you buy this DVD set you will get both the original Star Wars movies and their re-mastered versions. Unfortunately, you will not get the special edition versions (that version has probably been incinerated) that were Lucas' first attempt at editing his magnum opus. Also, the original versions of the film have not been cleared up in any way. I don't mind that so much because I actually like watching a movie that has a movie feel to it (audiences today have been ruined by expecting perfection and have absolutely no taste for atmosphere). The real problem with this set is that there is no new material here. It was all released just two years ago. This DVD set is just another attempt by Lucasfilm to cash in. They are one company that is excellent at getting people to buy the exact same thing of something they already have.

The only reason to buy this DVD set is if you don't own the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD. Otherwise, keep your cash and stop giving it to George until he offers something worthwhile.

Fantastic set if you do not own already on DVD. However, like most who have now purchased multiple versions of the DVD we are demanding that George Lucas WAKE UP and provide a blu-ray edition.

1 out of 5 stars Not buying until we get remastered '77, '80', and '83 versions   November 16, 2008

Memo to George Lucas: I am not buying any more of your movies until you give us the REMASTERED films as they were ORIGINALLY. Han shoots first. Hayden Christiansen's ghost does not appear at the end of ROTJ. The original nub nub Ewok music is put back into the film, and the original Jabba's Palace band music is restored, etc. etc. Get the picture? You can do it, George. And don't tell us that the original negatives for these films no longer exist, because I don't believe you. If you think you are going to keep me buying and rebuying and rebuying the same product over and over and over again, then think again, because I'm not coming along for the ride.

I repeat: As soon as you release the original 1977, 1980, and 1983 versions of the films AS THEY WERE ORIGINALLY - and they MUST be remastered - not grainy laserdisc transfers. Then, and ONLY then, can you have any more of my money.

Just give the fans what they want. Is that too much to ask?
