Jillian Michaels, the trainer from NBC's The Biggest Loser and self-proclaimed "TV's toughest fitness guru," runs through circuit training like a drill sergeant on caffeine. Her theory is to keep moving in between exercises to burn twice as many calories, so she cycles her team through sumo squats, mountain climbers, jump ropes, shoulder raises and bicycle moves without taking a breath. If she doesn't think one of her comrades is picking up his knees high enough, she makes everyone do 30 more, with a sadistic grin. As a result, you can almost literally watch the muscle burn. Michaels' Shape-Up Front DVD works out the chest, shoulders, triceps and quads. It also requires two props: a bench-style exercise step and light dumbbells. The DVD features include printable diet/exercise logs, nutrition tips and recipes. Despite a lower-level option, it isn't for anyone looking for a low-impact aerobic workout. --Ellen A. Kim

2 out of 5 stars It's okay!   November 17, 2008

You can get your heart rate up, it just depends how much you put into the work out! I just have a hard time with how "cool" she acts in her videos! Like most of the people who have work out videos, I doubt any of them have truly ever had a weight problem. The set along with her style of teaching are not my favorite! If I could have tried before I bought...I would not have bought the set.

4 out of 5 stars quick but effective workout   November 17, 2008
S. Aronov (Miami, FL USA)
The workout only lasts about 25 minutes and I initially thought this was short, but I definitely feel it the next day. I thought it would be more intense (because Jillian seems tough), but it is not that intense and yet it seems to be effective (my whole body is sore!). I wish it had energetic music to go with the workout (and subtitles or close captioning).

1 out of 5 stars I Wish I could have my money back....   November 16, 2008

This workout is a complete joke. I don't think I even broke a sweat. It lasts a little over 22 minutes and that's only b/c at the end of the video, one of the students mutters "that's it?" under her breath. Ms. Michaels extends the video two whole minutes with another set of jumping jacks.

If you have worked out at all in the past couple of months, this will NOT be a challenge for you. The video consists of her mostly giggling and gloating about how "difficult" this workout is and how "tough" of a trainer she is.

on the off-chance that you are reading this, Ms. Michaels- I want my money back.

1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing !!!!! (Kickbox cardio)   November 12, 2008
Ravikant Cherukuri (Seattle, WA USA)
I'm intermediate when it comes to working out. I love kick boxing and this video was a joke. First of all Jillian seemed like she was on dope, giggling away for no apparent reason. If you are Jillian Micheals fan then I would suggest sticking to 30 day shred. That is a great workout dvd.

2 out of 5 stars Is she high???   November 11, 2008

This was my first (and last) purchase of a Jillian Michaels workout. I was very disappointed, and found many of the moves to be ineffective because of the pace at which you have to do them. For example, doing bicept curls while simultaneously doing jumping jacks just doesn't allow for an effective pace. It felt like I had to rush through the moves just to keep up (and, no, I'm not unfit). I found this to be a problem for a lot of her exercises. Beyond that, I just found her annoying... the way she asks, "Are you DYING yet???" And she repeatedly laughs for absolutely no reason. I seriously think she smoked something before filming. What a waste of money (luckily I bought this at Ross for dirt-cheap!).
