"Are you ready for this?" quintessential cop on the edge Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) asks his longtime nemesis, Councilman David Aceveda (Benito Martinez) in the season finale. With more than a year between seasons, we're always ready for The Shield, which rivals The Wire not only in quality (not everyone is ready to play at this level, as Mackey states at one point) but also in the lack of appreciation for one of television's very best shows. Again, another great season, and another Emmy snub. There ought to be a law. There is much more to The Shield than its shocking and brutal violence and language. This penultimate season, which turns the heat on Mackey, a one-man good cop/bad cop, to boil, is "all kinds of personal" for its intimately observed characters. Mackey is obsessed with finding out who killed Strike Force member Lem, while Kavanaugh (Forest Whitaker), just as obsessed with taking Mackey down, recklessly crosses the line to "frame a guilty man." Meanwhile, Mackey keeps moving the line as he relentlessly pursues the drug kingpin he has judged responsible for Lem's death, going so far as to stage a faux kidnapping of his suspect's girlfriend. In one of the season's most excruciating scenes, he turns chain-wielding executioner. What viewers know, but Mackey initially does not, is that the killer is a guilt-ridden Shane (Walton Goggins), Mackey's best friend. Shane, ultimately exiled from the Strike Force, becomes embroiled in an ill-fated association with the daughter of Armenian mob boss, putting Mackey's family in peril. Back at the Barn, newly promoted Claudette Wyms (CCH Pounder) is under intense pressure as the precinct's body count mounts. Her former partner, Dutch (Jay Karnes) develops a crush on Tina (Paula Garces), the pretty new cop he is mentoring. She has a one-night stand with hotshot Kevin Hiatt (Alex O'Loughlin), the new guy whom Wyms fears may learn too much from Mackey or not enough. The tension builds inexorably to a season finale that fulfills all expectations, in which the resourceful Mackey, facing a review board hearing, must scramble to save his badge, resulting in a surprising alliance that bodes well for the final season. "Trust me," he states at one point, "There's a way out. There always is." From first episode to last, The Shield's sixth season is gripping, gut-wrenching stuff. To quote Shane: "Put another one in the win column." --Donald Liebenson

Product Description
Continuing directly after season 5, Vic and the Strike Team are distraught over Lem's death. Shane has been overcome by guilt and becomes reckless and suicidal. Kavanaugh refuses to let the case die and resorts to planting evidence and coercing witnesses to lie about the Strike Team. Dutch and Claudette begin to suspect his integrity. Vic learns from Claudette that the Chief plans to force him into early retirement — and vows to wreak bloody vengeance on Lem's killer before losing his badge. Claudette learns that the Barn could be shut down if no improvements are made by the time quarterly crime statistics are released.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific series   October 15, 2008
Martin Rousso
This is such a good series, and this latest season was not one bit disappointing. I watched one episode after the other. Of course, now I'm sorry that I watched it all. If you like cop shows, start from season one. You'll love them all.

5 out of 5 stars The working man's Sherlock Holmes, for The Farm   October 12, 2008
a student of History (USA)
Betrayed by the men he has trusted, distrusted by his superiors, when it's third and long, everyone looks at Vic Mackey and says, "Do what needs to be done, and don't let me know what you did, or how you did it."

In Season Six, Vic demonstrates why his strategy game has been reduced to survival, but his tactical game is the best in the world.

Everyone has been after him, and the wolves are finally closing in.

That's bad news - for the wolves.

Chiklis is simply brilliant as the "Go To Guy" we've all worked with, and lived in awe of.

At work, I was asked for the difference between Boys and Men.

I said, "You see Boys all around you, in the bodies of men. You want to see what a real man does, when it's third and long, and his family is at stake, watch Vic Mackey."

The Farm is NOT Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, and Vic Mackey is NOT Mr. Rogers.

Thank God!

5 out of 5 stars WHEW WHEW   October 10, 2008
J. D. hill (HIGH POINT NC)
THIS IS A SHOW THAT LEAVES ME TIRED AFTER EACH EPISODE.THERE IS SO MUCH GOING ON. THE END OF EACH SHOW IS A CLIFF HANGER. I SAW IT ON FX BUT WHEN YOU BUY THE DVD YOU CAN SEE SO MUCH STUFF THAT YOU MISSED. THE EXTRAS ARE ALSO INFORMATIVE. THE OUT TAKES ARE SOME TIMES FUNNY. I RECALL IN SEASON 2,3 OR 4 THE EXCUTIVE PRODUCERS FATHER WAS IN A EPISODE BUT THE PART HE WAS IN ENDED UP ON THE ON THE CLIPPING ROOM FLOOR. HIS FATHER SAID AT LEAST I GOT PAID. I WILL BE VERY SORRY WHEN THIS NON STOP ACTION SHOW GO OFF
WHEW MAKES ME TIRED THINKING ABOUT THE ACTION.

5 out of 5 stars Another great season   October 4, 2008
Wesley Willis (Arlington, VA)
Originally Season 6 was supposed to be the 2nd half of Season 5, but FX split the season in half. So, make sure you've watched season 5 and remember it before starting 6. In fact, given how many old characters and storylines this season pulls back into the forefront, you'll enjoy it more if you've recently rewatched all the seasons.

The DVDs themselves are fine, the only complaint I have is that there isn't an option to watch the full episodes with the deleted scenes edited back in where they would have appeared. Instead you have to watch them on their own, out of context.

5 out of 5 stars The Shield is amazing!   October 3, 2008
B. Burkholder (Kansas)
The series "The Shield" is amazing! It's got drama, suspense, sex, scandle. It's very intense, especially as the seasons go on!

I believe that the season that is showing right now (Season 7) is going to be the last of the series, which is very sad and disappointing.

So I would recommend to anyone that is THINKING about buying one of the Seasons, dont by just one, buy them ALL! It's a great show that you'll want to rewatch later on down the line!
