Amazon.com In the vein of Swimming with Sharks, Hijacking Hollywood is one of those dark comedies that is definitely funnier if you're familiar with the inner workings of the movie industry. A kid (Henry Thomas) from the Midwest with a film degree, a script, and a dream goes to Hollywood and a familial connection gets him a job as a production assistant on a big-budget film. Rather than turn into a 1930s Busby Berkeley musical in which moxie, talent, and a few lucky breaks take him to the top with an all-singing, all-dancing finale, the film takes a dark turn as he runs into the typically abusive Hollywood hierarchy. As Thomas takes the abuse, gets a feel for the geography, and learns to read between the lines on loosely defined doublespeak like "in development," he becomes fed up. He also realizes how easy it would be to accomplish the hijacking caper that gives this film its name. Although certain elements of the film do have that it's-funny-because-it's-true quality, the film has a tendency to replay the joke until it ceases to be funny. The best performance comes from Mark Metcalf, who seems most authentic as an overblown producer with an ego as big as his budgets. Thomas, on the other hand, seems to have the same expression on his face most of the time, and Scott Thompson's cackling production coordinator feels way too forced, particularly with the cackles. Hijacking Hollywood is decidedly low budget, even going so far as to have an official Web site with Geocites listed on the video box, when hijackinghollywood.com is (at the time of this writing) available for registration and would cost the producers as little as $300 to register and run for two years. --Greg Bulmash

Soft Porn Comedy October 3, 2003 Angus (Fordham Road, the Bronx) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This movie is categorized as a comedy but is really a soft porn movie. The character "porno guy" appears to have sex which makes this movie alltogether innapropriate for minors or tasteful adults. I think it would make more scense if the producers released as an adult film the short porno movie starring "porno guy" which runs within the "Hijacking" movie. They should, in effect, scrap Hijacking Hollywood, and release the adult flick that has created all the buzz.
Disturbing July 23, 2003 Christopher (Provincetown, MA) I found this movie disturbing. It is one thing to watch a movie expecting to see a lighthearted plot centering around hijacking and ransoming a movie by a production assistant, but it is another to watch a dead dog get shot at and a revolting porn scene with a guy that makes Ron Jeremy look like Tom Cruise. I have read the reviews below and was appalled at the porno guy's scene. What the hell was that guy wearing? And the facial expressions he was making...heinous.
Wacky stuff March 25, 2003 Angus (Fordham Road, the Bronx) I liked this creative movie very much. The characters were well played, specifically the character of "Porno Guy" played by Mike Mandt. Mandt stole the show and has become an icon with a cult following. Unfortunatly, Mandt is engaged to be married so I guess all those young men and women who had posters of him on the wall are upset. His portrayal of a porn star in Hijacking has sadly caused him to be typecast as a sleazy, sick and twisted, sexually perverted deviant villan. I'm sure he will eventually make a move into the adult movie buisness.
Mike Mant, the porno, guy is on the clock August 30, 2002 Seamus (Provo, UT) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
So, what exactly is the deal with that shady porno guy -- Mike Mant -- who appears in this movie?? He seems like like a decent guy despite his incredibly poor acting skills; what was the deal with his facial expressions? I know he was trying to replicate the look of guy in the middle of having sex, but he instead had the disturbed look on his face of a guy who has just been put on the clock because he has been dating a girl for years and just found out that his good friend got engaged after dating someone for only eight months. He really needs to work on his acting skills.
One of the best Indie films of all time! July 3, 2002 Mark S. (CA, USA) [...] Neil Mandt, Henry Thomas, Scott Thompson are all hilarious! and all those stereotypes are humourous. They make fun of themselves and their surroundings. If you know who Scott Thompson is(Kids in the hall) you will appreciate his performance. This film is meant to make fun of a mock urban hollywood. It is brilliantly funny. And if it seems "cheap" at times thats because its an INDIE FILM people.....Sit back and relax and enjoy this film I watch over and over again......oh and mr. anti-catholic guy get a life and stop dreaming about little boys.
