Amazon.com Just what the world needs: an all-musical roach revue. What worked as an MTV short film does not work as a feature-length movie. Intelligent cockroaches with lives of their own may seem outré and amusing on the small screen, but are disgusting and eventually boring when we have to spend 80 long minutes with them. Scruffy Jerry O'Connell is the Iowa farm boy who moves to the Big Apple and rents a filthy, bug-infested flat. Turns out those bugs are his only friends. Also turns out that the animated vermin are a whole lot more interesting than the human cast. This is just silly and gross enough for adolescent boys, or those with adolescent tastes. --Rochelle O'Gorman

For When you Don't Want to Think... November 11, 2008 S. Johnson (Shreveport, LA USA) This is a great movie for when you just want to chill out and laugh at a wonderfully stupid movie. You don't have to think at all, and the Funky Towel song will definately get stuck in your head. If only the rest of the world can be saved with a urinal cake...
"Joe's Apartment" Teaches Us That True Friends Come In All Shapes and Sizes May 6, 2008 J. B. Hoyos (Chesapeake, VA) Only MTV could make cockroaches appear lovable and endearing. "Joe's Apartment" is an adult version of such Walt Disney cartoons as "Finding Nemo" and "The Little Mermaid." I always thought of fish, lobsters, shrimp, etc., as disgusting and repugnant but Walt Disney turned them into warmhearted characters. Stud muffin, Jerry O'Connell, is Joe. O'Connell convinced me that he could successfully act in a comedy as well as in horror ("Scream 2") and science fiction (television series "Sliders"). He is an extremely versatile actor. The animation in "Joe's Apartment" is realistic. The cockroaches are very disgusting. However, I soon learned to overlook their appearance. Unfortunately, my girlfriend couldn't. We had to turn off the television and play Yahtzee. I later resumed watching the movie alone at my own apartment. I wonder if MTV knows that they actually produced a family movie that teaches good moral values. The foremost that comes to my mind is that you should never judge someone (or something) by their appearance. True beauty comes from within. The cockroaches try to help Joe but cause him to lose his girlfriend and one job after another. In the end, however, they come through for him. In the movie "Ben," wasn't it a little boy who befriended a rat named Ben? Though rats appear disgusting to many people, I found myself cheering for them during "Ben" and was very saddened whenever one of them was destroyed. I had a cockroach problem myself. The little buggers were hard to get rid of. Later on, I wrote an award winning humorous speech for Toastmasters; it was about myself befriending a large cockroach named "Ben." A coworker learned about my speech and loaned me a copy of "Joe's Apartment." By the way, my name is also "Joe." I thoroughly enjoyed "Joe's Apartment" and highly recommend it. I believe it is clean enough for the entire family, at least family members who are thirteen or older. It will one day be a true classic.
I LOVE the ROACHES in this film!!!!!!!! November 13, 2007 Fortean Anomalie (way way way out there) The ROACHES are so cute;they dance;they sing;they help the guy get the girl and save the apartment building from the evil, evil developer;they have a kitty-cat rodeo. The rest of the movie sucks;but the ROACHES are cute!!! I never thought I would ever say that about ROACHES!!!!!
