Product Description The story of a close-knit group of young kids in nazi germany who listen to banned swing music from the us Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 09/03/2002 Starring: Robert Sean Leonard Frank Whaley Run time: 114 minutes Rating: Pg13 Director: Thomas Carter
Amazon.com This strange movie with a niche subject--jazz-loving, dance-loving German kids persecuted by Hitler's men--almost works, thanks to a good cast who seem devoted to the unusual story line. Director Thomas Carter doesn't bring the necessary stylistic oomph to the musical sequences, something that might have pushed the whole production to another, more interesting level of Hollywood dream. Kenneth Branagh makes a particularly effective, wolf-in-sheep's-clothing Nazi official. --Tom Keogh

As good as I remember it, and slightly better now that I'm older and understand some of the references. June 19, 2008 Miss Rizzy (Parris Island, SC USA) Swing Kids has always been a favorite movie of mine, since I first saw it in college. Seeing it again after having been in the music business for 8 years, many of the musical references and jokes are clearer to me now and made the movie that much better. Musician or not, I highly recommend renting/buying this flick.
Good Movie June 7, 2008 R. Scott (Juniata, Ne USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this movie because I like swing dancing. It was a really good movie I really enjoyed it.
I'm not gonna lie... I LOVE this movie. April 24, 2008 Lauren (Chattanooga, TN USA) Yeah, the premise sounds weird. Nazi Germany + teens into swing music/culture = WTF? But, it's a tragic story of friends torn apart by an oppressive government. Robert Sean Leonard and Christian Bale are both wonderful.
One of my favorites! March 21, 2008 Suzanna Eller (Seattle, wa United States) Excellent film with some history, some fun dancing and some serious tear jerking...The music and dancing is amazing in this film but the story is really powerful too!
A Swinging Good Time February 13, 2008 Kara Chapman (Edwardsville, IL) This movie is amazing. Robert Sean Leonard and Christian Bale give amazing performances. The storyline is really powerful with messages that go beyond the WWII era. I first watched this movie in a German class, but bought it really soon afterwards... it's extremely powerful.
