3 out of 5 stars whats with the alien double voices? gone?   August 10, 2008
Ricardo Morales Nemez (cartagena, bolivar Colombia)
one of the things i loved the most about this show were the voices of the aliens and this was a central point in the original series but now they talk like humans and thats a very big hole in the plot because one day humans have to manage a way to talk like aliens and then in the next chapter aliens talk like humans. that without mentioning how cool they seemed with those voices.actually i think that was one of the major points of the series. i hate to see this overlooked.

5 out of 5 stars YES!!!!!!!!!   June 19, 2008

It WAS an event! To have this type of production value on TV was a big thing back then..no computers or cgi digitizing! Anyway...for us Sci Fi fans...it was like a candy trip to a 7-11 with about $5 back in the day.

But I didn't see many reviews about "Diana"..who was probably THE most interesting of characters. A kind of "female Hitler up-and-coming".

I remember when it was found out about us being the FOOD! Man..it was the TALK at school!!!

But also, the young girl that falls in love with the "alien" and get's pregnant...she was supposed to be played by Dominique Dunne who was the older sister in Poltergeist..unfortunately, after her first few takes on "V" she was murdered by her jealous boyfriend. If you look for one of the first shots of the spacecraft appearing over the cities, you can see Dominique in that wide shot when the neighborhood folk come out and looks up.

I'm sorry..but for the series acting, writing, concept and ideology of fighting against oppression..this series IS the bomb!!!!

The commentary by the first director is also fantastic. He talks about how the fighting against oppression in South Africa, at the time, sparked a wave of RED "V"s to be painted as a symbol against that oppression...and that was halfway around the world and to the south. Most people did not understand the global impact of it's deep rooted human meaning and power. It was adopted all over.

I often wondered about the movie "V" for Vendetta...there was very much a similar tone. Another one of my faves! I think we all need a little "V" in our life..to balance the damage that has been done to country and brotherhood.

Excellent service from Amazon. I received my DVD in about two days time. I actually thought I was getting a different DVD because I didn't know this one even existed. I was very surprised but glad to get it since I have never seen it. I will buy from Amazon again, anytime.

3 out of 5 stars A trip down memory lane more than entertainment   April 28, 2008

I was only 8 yrs old when the V TV series aired so I really only have very spotty memories of certain scenes. Purchasing this set was a must for me as I grew up with the original 10 hr mini-series and remember it quite well and fondly.

I have to agree with the other reviewers in that I believe the 19 episode TV series started strong but began to sink mid-season and then died on its feet by the end. However, I am glad that I've finally seen this and now know the enitre story (video version at least...as there are numerous books).

Still, for fans of the original miniseries it's worth watching at least once if only for a continuation of the story and for nostalgic reasons. For die-hard fans (and they are out there) this is a must have.

3 out of 5 stars Dukes of Hazard in Outerspace   April 21, 2008

They blew it with this series.. Kenneth Johnson created a timeless masterpiece with the V miniseries. It could apply to any time period- past, present or future. It was a documentary on humanity -- this series lost all of that magic. I give the series 3 stars because it's just such an awesome concept that we were introduced to through the miniseries. I watched each episode wanting so much more than I was left with. But Jane is such a great evil alien I watched just to see her scenes.
