Amazon.com The X-Files Revelations is a two-disc grab bag of eight significant episodes from Fox's iconic sci-fi/horror series starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents investigating the paranormal. From season 1, it includes the pilot and "Beyond the Sea," in which Brad Dourif plays a death-row inmate who claims to have psychic visions of a serial killer. In "The Host" (season 2), Mulder (Duchovny) and Scully (Anderson) pursue a human-sized fluke worm, and "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose" (season 3) features an Emmy-winning Peter Boyle as a man who can see how people will die. "Memento Mori" (season 4) deals with an attempt to save one of the agents from a critical disease, Jerry Springer appears as himself in the black-and-white Frankenstein story "The Post-Modern Prometheus" (season 5), "Bad Blood" (also season 5) is a vampire story, and in "Milagro" (season 6), a writer turns to Scully as his subject as he also becomes a murder suspect. Released just before the theatrical opening of the second X-Files movie, The X-Files Revelations bills itself as the "essential guide" to that movie. But really it's just a broad sampling of the kind of episodes the series had to offer, with one major omission. By concentrating on the stand-alone "creature feature" episodes, it almost completely ignores the entangling, absorbing, and often-baffling story lines about alien abduction and government conspiracy that the series was known for. Tellingly, only two of the episodes (the pilot and "Memento Mori") also appear in The X-Files Mythology compilation series, which attempted to condense nine seasons of conspiracy themes into 16 discs. The X-Files Revelations has a lot of entertaining episodes, especially "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," and creator Chris Carter and executive producer Frank Spotnitz have filmed new introductions explaining why they picked each episode. And fans will also be interested in a 27-minute WonderCon panel from February 2008 with Duchovny, Anderson, Carter, and Spotniz discussing the new movie. But novices shouldn't expect this two-disc set to teach them everything they need to know about The X-Files. --David Horiuchi

Scary, Fun, Well Written August 26, 2008 John Dandell (Underworld) I literally jumped when I watched some of the episodes....and its only a TV show. I had more fun watching this set with my mom than going to see the new XF2 movie. The episodes are very well written and classic. There will be something that you will like on here. If you haven't seen any of them, then you will definitely love the set. It is typical of what x-files is supposed to be without the filler. I would describe this DVD set as spooky and fun and well worth the money, especially if you pick it up used.
The X-Files at It's Best August 23, 2008 Jason (Provo, UT) This DVD definitely prepares you for the new movie I Want to Believe, however, I feel cheated because the DVD came with a movie pass that expires on August 31st! I Want to Believe didn't even stay in theaters for a month here in my hometown!! What the crap is that?
must have August 13, 2008 Y. Soto I loved it.. I loved it.. loved it.. I JUST LOVE THE X FILES... give me some more!!!!
A nice little package of episodes, with good extras August 12, 2008 Joseph P. Menta, Jr. (Philadelphia, PA USA) A little truth-in-advertising admonition is called for here: "X-Files Revelations" is billed as the "essential guide to the X-Files movie" (the one that opened in theaters in July 2008). In actuality, this two-DVD set should have been more accurately described as "a compilation of classic X-Files episodes that, while not really having anything to do with the new movie, will get you in the mood for it". But I guess that didn't sound as catchy. Anyway, you get eight very good episodes here, each accompanied by two or three minutes of optional introductory comments by show creator Chris Carter and producer/writer Frank Spotnitz, with a cute cameo by Gillian Anderson in the final introduction. You also get the trailer from the new movie, and an entertaining, informative 26-minute panel discussion (made up of Carter, Spotnitz, Anderson, and David Duchovny) about the movie and the series in general, taped at a sci-fi/fantasy convention sometime in 2007. What interesting about the panel discussion is that David Duchovny, who jumped ship from the series in its late going, is the one who speaks most enthusiastically and eloquently about the show and the movies. With its inexpensive price and interesting special features, this compilation is a good deal for folks like me who enjoy "The X-Files" but don't own every season and haven't seen every episode. Oh, and for what it's worth, I enjoyed the new movie, "The X-Files: I Want to Believe". Sure, it was understated and decidedly non-bombastic for a summer genre release, but what's wrong with that? I liked the acting, the creepiness, and the genuine thematic subtext. Good stuff. Do yourself a favor if you missed it in the theaters: pick up this well done compilation DVD to kill time while you're waiting for the movie to come out on DVD, and then pick it up when it does come out. It'll probably play better in the more intimate home viewing environment, anyway.
X Files Revelations August 11, 2008 Ryan Charlton (Ontario,Canada) Hey!X-Files Phans This 2 disk set is a re-release of 8 major X-Files TV shows including the feature ''Pilot'' from 1993. "Bad Blood'' is as Gillian Anderson says "My favorite X-File Episode'' Is also included in this new package. Peter Boyle !(Before his major TV Role in ''Everybody Loves Raymond'') guest stars in the *EP "Clyde Bruckman's final Repose". This is also a great stand alone *EP. One of the first ''Chris Owens'' *EP's includes Cher's old hit's that fit the subject well with a slight cameo of Cher' near the ending and it also makes reference to one of her movies. The rest are scary as well as funny. Remember that all these *Ep's we have seen before on TV and in the series packaged version it's just a re-packaged with new 2008 intro's. Enjoy yourself if your new to the X Files or as well as an older fan who saw them when you were much younger and who didn't buy all the '1 thru 9 season' packaged DVD sets. There is a new interview on Disk '2' for fans in ''Comic-Con'' with Chris Carter,Frank Spotniz, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny up on stage! Talking about their new upcoming Movie titled "I want to Believe". Playing in Theatre's July 25th'08. This movie is like ''A long X Files TV Show'' Only it's really scary. More of an X-File that director/writer Chris Carter invisioned his creation to be. ''Happy 1013!'' For all you new X-Files Fans! (*EP=Epsiode)
