Béart and Brussières are reason enough to see this film. October 28, 2008 G. Merritt (Boulder, CO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Written and directed by Catherine Corsini, La Rèpètition (The Replay) stars Emmanuelle Béart, Pascale Bussières, and Dani Levy in a slow-paced 2001 drama about female friendship, love, co-dependence and obsession. Nathalie (Béart) is a drama student at University, where her childhood friend Louise (Bussières) becomes obsessed with her. After they are separated by a devastating tragedy, the two friends reconnect 10 years later, rekindling Louise's destructive obsession for Nathalie. Jealous of Nathalie's male friends, Louise becomes unhinged and attempts suicide. Her lesbian obsession continues for years after Nathalie becomes a successful theatre actress. Louise worships Nathalie. Béart and Brussières carry the Golden Palm nominated film with their fine performances. G. Merritt
