Having read all of PHC's books - seeing the man on film seemed like a great idea.
Afraid to say the DVD collection does not do his books justice.
They are cheaply made and packaged (but not sold cheaply...), poorly edited - very much overpriced for what they are.
As far as the content goes - I found the Hunting the African Lion DVD contains exactly the kind of footage that leads to criticism of hunting...A lion is tracked by vehicle before the hunter jumps out and blasts the lion who is sitting tamely under a tree...if that is not a typical lion hunt then why put this as the only lion hunt on the dvd?. Certainly did not impress me as the rough and tough hunting described in the books.
The rest of the dvd's contain numerous repeats and fillers taken and shared between the various other dvds. It's unimpressively edited, the content is weak with very little actual action footage of interesting hunts, let alone dangerous ones.
What bothered me most was that most of the footage is not even of PHC hunting (even his last safari) but rather of clients doing mostly harmless hunting like shooting giraffe (!) and various types of antelope - an effort which seems to require no skill at all. PHC provides commentary and turns up at the end of most of the kills - not what I expected.
If you are a PHC fan - stick to the books which I found mostly excellent. I really believe this collection would not exist if PHC were still around to see what was being released under his name.

After reading all of his books at least 3 times, it was good to see the man in action. This is an essential addition to any collection of Africana. I did feel, however, that the extras section of the DVD's was a last minute add-on, and that the content should have been included in the main feature, but this is a minor quibble and does not in any way detract from hunting with Peter!
And after Amazon saying that delivery could be up to 2 months, the DVD's arrived in 7 days!! Amazing service to New Zealand; thank you!
