5 out of 5 stars worth every penny!!!   December 4, 2008

The Kindle by far is the single best purchase I have made in the last year. If you are a reader then this is the one electronic reader for you. I tried the Sony Reader before finally deciding to purchase the Kindle and I am very glad I did. The Sony may look slicker to some (personally i prefer the understated design of the Kindle) but after you get past the looks it falls short on the main reasons you want an electronic reader. Just the fact that I can browse, purchase and get a book in under 2 minutes sold me but the wealth of titles in the Kindle book store arsenal is impressive. Thanks to all the heads up here I can say I have yet hit the next page before I was ready and I do leave mine in its cover. I too love books but after you strip away the paper cover you still are left with white paper and black writing so the fact that the kindle is in black and white I view as a plus. Yes some will say the price is steep but considering the fact that I can read a novel in one day and the price for a new hardback in any bookstore is at least $25.00 the savings on book purchases alone makes the intial purchase price doable.

For anyone who has ever tried to get comfortable reading in bed with a big hardback book you will appreciate the fact that the Kindle is bed reading friendly. What else can I say but until you actually make the purchase and experience the Kindle you will never understand why so many owners refuse to be without it. About the only drawback I have is that my reading is constantly being disturbed by someone walking up to me and asking me "so how do you like the Kindle?"

4 out of 5 stars DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT YOUR KEYS, CELL PHONE, AND KINDLE!   December 4, 2008

I love to read but I don't like to use household space to store all of the read books. (It's not like I read Shakespearean gold bound novels that look so elegantly displayed in a cherry walled library.) The small and lightweight Kindle solves that problem for me. My favorite feature is the built in dictionary. At the click of a button I know the meaning of any word. Another excellet feature is the long battery life that allows many hours of reading before the next charge. The only thing I do not like about the Kindle is I'm always hitting the "next page" bar located on the righthand side by mistake. The bar seems to be located in the place the device feels most comfortable for me to hold it by. I also wish there was back up lighting on the reader screen but I understand that feature would drain the battery faster.
I highly recommend this item. And what better way to get Oprah's Book Club books faster!!!

This is a great product. Someone should have thought of it sooner. Everyone will have one soon. The only thing that I would change if I could, would be to put the 2 on/off switches on the front so that they could be accessed without removing the cover.

When are the second generation Kindles going to come out? I want to purchase them as gift for my siblings but they are so picky about color. Putting in my request for a hot pink one!!!

4 out of 5 stars Just love it   December 4, 2008

I'm giddy about the Kindle. I just can't keep from smiling when I pull it out and have so much to choose from right in my purse. The only recommendation I would like Amazon to negociate is better pricing for the newspapers that are offered. Also, I hope the new model is not so new that I will feel that I made a mistake by not waiting a few more months.
