A guilty pleasure for me. June 24, 2008 A. Alfonso (Maryland, US) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Many fans declare as this the worst Godzilla film made but for me the worst is Godzilla vs. Megalon. The reason is because it uses more stock footage than the other Godzilla films up to that point (which they used very little) and that it was more childish and kiddish than the previous ones as well. But that was the main point! The film wasn't to be taken seriously like the original film but made for children so they can defend themselves from their own bullies and have their own dreams of Godzilla and his monster pals. One thing that is a highlight for this film is that the young actor who portrays Ichiro isn't as obnoxious as some children from the Gamera films (Gamera vs. Zigra comes to mind). To sum it up, it's a rather entertaining film to watch and is good to show your children if they have started an interest in Godzilla or kaiju films in general. It's supposed to be mindless fun and can be enjoyed as long as you remember that it's for children, not for adults. Oh, and the DVD is good too. We get the Classic Media usuals, trailer, biography, audio commentary, and the original Japanese version with optional subtitles. And the quality is near perfect as well. So this is a worthy disc to any fan's collection if they are interested and enjoy this film.

i remember waiting for the godzilla marathons and recording them all on vhs. when this one came out i was dissapointed but thought it was so campy and funny. i just watched the japanese version for the first time and i may prefer the funny voice of the american version. i had the classic media version but this new one looks better. p.s did japanese kids really wear those shorts? damn thats like underwear haha.
Error Corrected. April 30, 2008 Jason Adamczyk (Sterling Hts, MI United States) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
Amazon fixed the mix up with the reviews they had been crossed up with Godzilla,Mothra,King Ghidorah Giant All Out Monsters Attack but it's now corrected. Still a horrible movie but one to own just for a collector.
The one that started it all; for me anyways... March 26, 2008 Jerry C. Lewey 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Growing up, this installment of GODZILLA was my favorite. I do believe this was my first Godzilla movie I ever watched. It came on TBS'S SUPER SCARY SATURDAY ON THE SUPERSTATION hosted by Grandpa from THE MUNSTERS. I loved it when they showed Godzilla movies and this one sort of started it all for me. When I was a kid, I didn't care about anything but monster action in these films and this one has it, albeit, most of it is STOCK FOOTAGE. I recently watched this movie a few days ago with my daughter and I laughed throughout the whole movie basically. My 1 year loved it though and now she is a bonafide Zilla fan. This proves once again, this is really just a kid friendly Godzilla movie. Another upside is Minilla(?), aka son of Godzilla, which sort of stars in this movie. He can apparently grow from 4 feet to several dozen feet in a matter of seconds and he can talk(LIKE BARNEY NO LESS). So that was fun to watch. The story is lame though because it's about some kid being bullied around and consulting with Minilla on how to handle this problem. He himself is being bullied and can't deal with his on problems without Godzilla's help. I know this Godzilla flick is commonly regarded as the worse of all Godzilla movies, but it is important because the series just wouldn't be complete without it. I can't imagine the series with no GODZILLA'S REVENGE because it sold me on the Zilla movies. Get it for your kids, get it for your self....
A great DVD for a low point in the Showa Series. March 15, 2008 Danny (South Philly) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
First off, I just want to congratulate the reviewer "gencus," part of whose Amazon review of one of the older GR DVD's got mentioned in the audio commentary on this new disc. He's the guy who did the snowcone analogy/metaphor/whatever. Congratulations, dude. You're an official part of Godzilla merchandise history. :) I ordered this DVD from Classic Media's website along with Terror Of Mechagodzilla. I already have their other releases and didn't want to shell out money for the box set which contains discs I already own, and I certainly didn't want to wait until late April to own these. I recieved 'em in less than a week's time. I'm glad I didn't wait. Both discs look and sound terrific. Both are the "newest" Godzilla movies Classic Media has the rights to so they're probably the best transfers out of the whole lot. You wouldn't confuse them for 2008 mega-blockbusters, but for films of their age which never really got the respect they deserved in the home video market in terms of quality, they look (and sound) pretty phenominal. You get the Japanese versions and the American versions, just like the other discs in this series. I wish Classic Media had the rights to this entire franchise. Sony admittedly did a stellar job with their respective discs, but CM has the upper hand in packaging and bonus goodies. About the same in the quality department. Am I rambling? Godzilla's Revenge may be the most disliked movie of this long-running series. It's clearly aimed at kids and smacks of "rush job." Most of the monster action is stock footage from Son Of Godzilla and Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster. The main character is a kid whose mind provides us the key to Monster Island. All of the action is in his head. And we've seen all that there is to see in this movie before (unless you watch Godzilla movies for the human drama). Arguably, it's a pretty pointless film. Oh, and Minilla is in it. And he talks. Like Barney. That said, it's entertainig/inoffensive enough and is fairly short. I get more joy out of watching this than half of the movies in the Millenium Series (oh yeah, I went there). It gives us one of life's little lessons in the form of guys fighting in rubber suits: stand up for yourself. A classic Godzilla movie. Or, rather, a "classic" Godzilla movie. I'm glad I bought it, if only to complete my collection. Again, bravo to Classic Media. You've done a fine job. Now bring on Rodan!
