must have August 13, 2008 Y. Soto I loved it.. I loved it.. loved it.. I JUST LOVE THE X FILES... give me some more!!!!
A nice little package of episodes, with good extras August 12, 2008 Joseph P. Menta, Jr. (Philadelphia, PA USA) A little truth-in-advertising admonition is called for here: "X-Files Revelations" is billed as the "essential guide to the X-Files movie" (the one that opened in theaters in July 2008). In actuality, this two-DVD set should have been more accurately described as "a compilation of classic X-Files episodes that, while not really having anything to do with the new movie, will get you in the mood for it". But I guess that didn't sound as catchy. Anyway, you get eight very good episodes here, each accompanied by two or three minutes of optional introductory comments by show creator Chris Carter and producer/writer Frank Spotnitz, with a cute cameo by Gillian Anderson in the final introduction. You also get the trailer from the new movie, and an entertaining, informative 26-minute panel discussion (made up of Carter, Spotnitz, Anderson, and David Duchovny) about the movie and the series in general, taped at a sci-fi/fantasy convention sometime in 2007. What interesting about the panel discussion is that David Duchovny, who jumped ship from the series in its late going, is the one who speaks most enthusiastically and eloquently about the show and the movies. With its inexpensive price and interesting special features, this compilation is a good deal for folks like me who enjoy "The X-Files" but don't own every season and haven't seen every episode. Oh, and for what it's worth, I enjoyed the new movie, "The X-Files: I Want to Believe". Sure, it was understated and decidedly non-bombastic for a summer genre release, but what's wrong with that? I liked the acting, the creepiness, and the genuine thematic subtext. Good stuff. Do yourself a favor if you missed it in the theaters: pick up this well done compilation DVD to kill time while you're waiting for the movie to come out on DVD, and then pick it up when it does come out. It'll probably play better in the more intimate home viewing environment, anyway.
X Files Revelations August 11, 2008 Ryan Charlton (Ontario,Canada) Hey!X-Files Phans This 2 disk set is a re-release of 8 major X-Files TV shows including the feature ''Pilot'' from 1993. "Bad Blood'' is as Gillian Anderson says "My favorite X-File Episode'' Is also included in this new package. Peter Boyle !(Before his major TV Role in ''Everybody Loves Raymond'') guest stars in the *EP "Clyde Bruckman's final Repose". This is also a great stand alone *EP. One of the first ''Chris Owens'' *EP's includes Cher's old hit's that fit the subject well with a slight cameo of Cher' near the ending and it also makes reference to one of her movies. The rest are scary as well as funny. Remember that all these *Ep's we have seen before on TV and in the series packaged version it's just a re-packaged with new 2008 intro's. Enjoy yourself if your new to the X Files or as well as an older fan who saw them when you were much younger and who didn't buy all the '1 thru 9 season' packaged DVD sets. There is a new interview on Disk '2' for fans in ''Comic-Con'' with Chris Carter,Frank Spotniz, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny up on stage! Talking about their new upcoming Movie titled "I want to Believe". Playing in Theatre's July 25th'08. This movie is like ''A long X Files TV Show'' Only it's really scary. More of an X-File that director/writer Chris Carter invisioned his creation to be. ''Happy 1013!'' For all you new X-Files Fans! (*EP=Epsiode)
I Miss The X-Files August 9, 2008 skyeye (Las Vegas, NV USA) Watching this DVD was really fun! I'd forgotten just how diverse the story lines in the X-Files TV series were, and the DVD was a great recap of that series.
Casual fans: Buy this set...skip the movie August 7, 2008 Juliet (Davis, California) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an excellent compilation set for casual fans. Obsessed X-Philes already own every episode in some form or another, so don't buy this if you loved "The X-Files" so much that your friends and family planned an intervention. The episodes are first-rate -- a virtual grab bag of some of the best stand-alone episodes in the series' nine-season run. As an introduction to the feature film for newbies or as a refresher course for the millions of fans who jumped ship after the show jumped the shark, well...what can I say? Shades of each episode can be seen in the movie, but the movie wasn't very good. Stay home, microwave some popcorn, and enjoy these classic "X-Files" episodes instead.
