5 out of 5 stars New Moon: the movie   August 5, 2010
Douglas (Albany, NY USA)
This film did a particularly good job with the actual writtten story. The license taken by the screen writer and director was sensible, but it is the technical effects that make it a "must see."

3 out of 5 stars New Moon..So..So   August 3, 2010
Marilyn Parker (USA)
This movie started out just like the book with her getting Birthday gifts from Charlie..But i did not like it much cause Edward was absent through most of it..well he was absent in the novel too...it would have been a good ideal for the author to write a short book about what he did after he left Bella...I thought that was ridiculous...he loves her..but he is just going to go off and leave her and not care how she hurts..or if some vampire kills her??I did not like the scene when Edward left..kristen showed little emotion...any girl would be sobbing and pleading with him..falling to her knees..or screaming his name..she just stood there..then it was so black could hardly tell what was going on...she is not crying or nothing..even when she is found..she should have been sobbing and muttering Edwards name...and why does Alice stop having any contact with her? They are friends..so email at least..why did all The Cullens have to leave town cause Edward wanted to leave? also..a Mother would know what her daughter was going through and not even come to visit to try to comfort her?? Any Mother would do that...well she did not show up for her graduation either in Eclipse which is not normal for a Parent..they cut the motorcycle part as Bella gets it from that house..when Bella and Jessica go to movies..i did not like the way Jessica acted..she is Bella's friend..so she should have been trying to cheer her up..and Jacob turns on Bella just cause he is a werewolf now? What does that have to do with their relationship? The scene where Bella runs across the court yard is good..but geez..she wanted to see him so bad..she is finally with him and she acts cold to him and he doesn't grab her and kiss her..etc like he has missed her..the ending was a disappointment as the book did not end that way....anyway..The Directors should talk to Kristen about emotions...and in 2nd and 3rd movies..Edward acts too cold..too remote...lacking passion etc..the end of the book..he does try to make love to her but she stops him....sort of funny..after she had been trying to get him to do that...Directors should read the novels...open a website and ask what people want in the movies....I thought the lipstick on Edward was really bad..Light lipstick maybe..more natural looking and why in each movie does everyone look different? The books were a time span of about a year and a half...so why do the hair styles..makeup..eyes etc change in each movie..it was totally obvious in Eclipse...even Bella..in Twilight she dressed more teen style and like in the novel..not really caring what she wore...New Moon had her dressed fancier and older looking..Eclipse was back to the Teen look as to her clothes..New Moon what little we see of Edward..he wears a suit..that just did not fit into Edward's image..and no way do Rose,Emmett,Jasper,Alice look like Teens and why do they have to go to school? couldn't they just be young adults??

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie- A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!   August 2, 2010
Mom of three (NJ)
I bought this movie for my daughter who just turned 11, she is big in to Twilight. We rented Twilight and Twilight New Moon one day when I wasn't feeling well and after watching the first one we were ready right away to watch the second one. Then we bought the book "The Eclipse" which was like 650 pgs and my daughter and I both read the book, I couldn't put it down. We couldn't wait for the new movie to come out in June. All the movies are great and the books are even better. I would definitely recommend this movie and can't wait for the Eclipse to come out on DVD. I can't even tell you how many times we have watched this movie and the first one over and over again, for a while it was practically on a daily basis and we never get tired of it. The thing I really liked about this movie is even though it is about vampires they really don't show much blood, it is very kid friendly. My daughter wasn't afraid at all and she hates when you even mention the word blood. And so far in both movies Edward (Bella's boyfriend) is very Old Fashioned, if you know what I mean. So I thought it was appropriate for my daughter. All the 5th graders in her school were really in to Twilight as well.

1 out of 5 stars Worse than the book, if that's possible   August 2, 2010

Spoilers are entirely possible, but hey, maybe they'll save somebody from seeing this terrible movie...

As I generally enjoy books more than their respective film adaptations, it came as no surprise to me that watching this movie was, quite literally, painful. The Twilight films in general suffer from terrible scripts and in most cases, inadequate acting. However, I was intrigued by the original concept of Twilight. I don't consider Stephenie Meyer a great writer by any means, but I do have to give her credit for her reimagining of vampires. Twilight wasn't a great movie in the artistic sense, but it was very watchable and the commentary, if you want to listen to it, is hysterical.
In New Moon, the story is completely ripped apart. Edward is gone for most of the film, as are most of the other vampires, who I find to be the only remotely intriguing part of the series. Instead, we get triple doses of Jacob, mostly half-naked. Now, maybe I am the only seventeen year old girl who is not interested in Taylor Lautner's torso, and so I'm a little biased, but all I could think is "Where's the plot... surely this movie will not sell itself on the concept of shirtless men?" But it does. That and Kristen Stewart screaming like a dying cat. You lose the idea of the forbidden human/vampire romance because it's drenched in a couple hours of angst and random activity, and you also get the idea that Bella will never love Jacob enough to ditch Edward, so in the end his presence seems completely pointless: "Irrevocable" love isn't something you can really mess with, I guess.
I almost feel like I'm missing something important -- like there's this hidden message that I'm not getting, which will explain precisely what the point of this film is supposed to be, what its artistic merits are, and why on earth I should spend a few hours of my time watching it. I don't think this message will be forthcoming, but it's nice to think that someone actually wrote this with the intention of putting forth some kind of unifying concept. I have to say, this is the first love story I have seen in which one of the main characters is physically absent for about three-quarters of the movie. But Stephenie Meyer once said that Jacob is her favorite character, so I guess her crush on him took over...
About the acting: I find it trully sad that the cast, who I find no other fault with other than their fruitless attempts to make a good movie out of abysmal source material, is forced to embarrass themselves by delivering such awful lines. I've seen a couple other Robert Pattinson movies, and I thought he did a fantastic job in those, but watching him as Edward is just painful -- except maybe when he smashes the cell phone. I think Taylor Lautner should do comedy, because he delivers his rare comedic lines perfectly. Billy Burke is awesome, and I've heard good things about Kristen Stewart outside of Twilight, but her performance makes me hate Bella even more than I already did. And all the "vampires'" makeup is awful -- they look deformed, not painfully beautiful.
