Odd movie for Crowe and Scott August 13, 2008 nodice (Manchester, Ga United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't enjoy this movie as much as I thought I would. I never do connect with Skinner and I felt the romance was just a convenient subplot. I wasn't sure if the cousin or the waitress was supposed to be the love interest for a while there. But overall, I felt this film was a male version of Under the Tuscan Sun. (France instead of Italy.) I didn't believe Skinner's transformation. Nothing in this captured my heart the way it should have. There was a few storylines just dropped. I thought the best friend and the cousin would become an item. But I did enjoy the soundtrack.
A film for only a few July 30, 2008 Vicki M. Wagner (Biarritz, FRANCE.) Only Europeans or those vastly familiar with life in Europe will be able to appreciate the loveliness and humour of this film. So before anyone writes a negative review, please know that you need thorough knowledge and experience of life in Europe, especially France. There is no better life than the one in France. Come on down and see for yourself!!!
A good year June 22, 2008 G. Recipient I had read some of the terrible reviews this movie received, so I was somewhat surprised to enjoy A Good Year as much as I did. Russell Crowe manages to be quite charming when he's not throwing phones at bellboys, and he makes his character if not exactly likeable, which would have been impossible, then at least compelling. Marion Cotillard, Abbie Cornish and the great Albert Finney make a good supporting cast.
A joy to watch June 14, 2008 Ernesto Pedro Homeyer (Los Angeles, CA) This movie is all about live and making the right decisions. On top of that you have great cultural humor between the French and the British. Ridley Scott knows his stuff. He created a classic with Alien and another classic with this one. I watched it already too many times, but enjoy it again and again.
Great Movie June 6, 2008 Judith O'hare (Davie, fl USA) I get bored easily with movies. But this has become one of my all times favorites. I've probably watched it now 10 times.
