5 out of 5 stars Who is the Batwoman?   July 15, 2008
AeroRep (Los Angeles, CA)
Well, let's see. We have a compelling plot, witty dialogue, fantastic animation, gorgeous women, and plenty of action. Wow, pass the popcorn. Mystery of the Batwoman is just that, a mystery. Who is she, and why is she wreaking havoc on the Penguin, Rupert Thorne, and a new third player? Even Batman can't figure it out. There are certainly plenty of lovely ladies to choose from, and not in the usual way that his handsome alter ego may be accustomed to. Alan Burnett's intricate storyline is more of a whoisshe than a whodunit, with Penguin and Co. the ill fated individuals, more than Batman, who desperately want this perplexing problem quickly and permanently resolved. They even bring in Bane to help find a solution. This story has it all, with about the only area of criticism, and a fairly minor one at that, being with the voice acting. Paul Williams and Henry Silva are regrettably absent from their usual respective roles of Penguin and Bane, and their gifted and pleasurable presence is undoubtedly missed, but the rest of the movie is so remarkably strong that it clearly compensates for this one unfortunate misstep. When discussing any animated movie, even one such as this replete with interesting twists and turns at every juncture, in the final analysis it still primarily comes down to one thing. Was it fun? The answer to that is a resounding and thunderous yes, and praise all around to Alan Burnett, Michael Reaves, and the rest of the talented team of animators and creators for producing yet another stellar and supremely enjoyable Batman movie. P.S. The bonus Chase Me short, or for that matter all of the extras, are great also.

5 out of 5 stars Another great Batman feature   July 13, 2008

Im a very big Batman fan that i was very dissapointment by the lame "The Batman" series. Bruce Timm's Batman remains till this day the greatest. When i learned that Bruce Timm had nothing to do with Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman i felt that it wont be good. Then i saw that Alan Burnett wrote the story so i decided to see it. The result: an excellent yet again Batman movie! The story is very good, it keeps make you think who Batwoman is and the action seguence was awesome! Kevin Conroy one again proves why he IS Batman and many actor's from Batman The Animated Series return to provide there voice to the character's! Overall this was one of the best Batman animated features

4 out of 5 stars Special Features make it all worthwhile   July 12, 2008

Used to the first 3 volumes of Batman: The Animated Series, I found the quality lacking compared to them, as Mystery of the Batwoman is in the style of the 4th volume.

However, if you're a fan, as I am, you'll find this DVD to be completely worthwhile because of "Chase Me", the silent short-film set to music in the special features. It's only a couple minutes long, but it's a beautiful, romantic, action-packed, and humorous film that had me wishing for more.

4 out of 5 stars Batman-Mystery of the Batwoman..........   July 8, 2008
blackaciddevil (in the USA somewhere.....)
There's a new hero in town named Batwoman who has her sights on Rupert Thorne & The Penguin. Both men have a plan to sell illegal weapons in Gotham City. Yet, Batwoman has another agenda concerning them. Meanwhile, Batman spends his time trying to figure out if Batwoman is an ally to his cause or not. Bane, the feared villan who broke Batman's back in the comics, makes an appearance as a hired hitman to take out any person or persons in the way of Thorne and Penguin's business. The movie follows the time period of The New Batman / Superman Adventures. It's created by the same creative team as The New Batman Adventures and Batman Beyond & features the vocal talents of:Kevin Conroy, Kimberly Brooks, Hector Elizondo, Elisa Gabrielli, Kevin Michael Richardson, Kelly Ripa, Kyra Sedgwick and David Ogden Stiers. Pop Singer Cherie even lends her pipes to the film with her tune "Betcha Never". This direct-to-DVD animated feature is actually pretty good, in my opinion. While this is 'Batman-lite', it is not as uninspired as The Batman/Superman Movie was...which is a good thing. I really enjoyed the fourth animated film set in the universe of Batman:The Animated Series. Definitely worth adding to your collection of all things Batman.

4 out of 5 stars Weakest Of The Animated Batman Films But Still Not Bad   June 4, 2008
Ervin Griffin (Bluefield, WV)
In a continuation of Batman: The Animated Series, The Dark Knight tackles a new costumed figure in Gotham known as The Batwoman. While a crime fighter, she uses more lethal means than our hero and that doesn't sit well with Batman.

Meanwhile, three new women begin to emerge and any one of them could be The Batwoman. Add in returning characters The Penguin, Bane and Rupert Thorn from the original series and you have a pretty good animated feature.

Though there is some violence, I would rate this one safe for kids. Moreso than Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm, Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker and The Batman Vs. Dracula (though those were entertaining as well). The only other one that cool for young kids is Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero.

I enjoyed all the animated Batman features but even I'll admit if I had kids, this one and Sub-Zero are probably the only ones I'd let kids watch until they were older.

Overall, a good feature but its the bonus feature called "Chase Me" that makes this DVD a keeper! Good one to get!
