Mirror Has Two Faces March 14, 2008 Kelly (Littleton, Colorado) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
While this movie will never win any acclaim or awards, it was a light romantic comedy that hit a home run with me. I liked Jeff Bridges and Barbara Streisand together. They were funny and had good rapport together on screen.
Mirror Has Two Faces March 3, 2008 Susan Friedman The Mirror Has Two Faces When our local cable company started running this film a month ago, I had almost forgotten that I had seen it in the theatre when it first came out. I was reminded of how much I had missed the film and started watching it again. I was surprised and pleased to find that I still enjoy it and I've watched it faithfully every time that it's shown. Jeff Bridges plays a Columbia University mathematics professor, Gregory Larkin. He is good looking but a boring, lonely man, whose relationships with beautiful women never work out. He wants one that is platonic, which is founded on respect, intelligence and a passion for ideas. Inspired by a television ad, he takes out his own personal ad and finds several applicants, which includes another Columbia University literature professor Rose Morgan through her sister, Claire, who answers the ad Gregory calls her one night after visiting her class and asks her to dinner where the two of them hit it off. Three months later, Gregory proposes and explains the arrangement, although, he tells her that if she wants sex, given enough of a warning, he'll be able to provide that. Rose accepts, even though she wants more. She gets her chance after she helps Greg with his teaching and he asks her if he can return the favor. And that's when things go horribly wrong. While I'm not a big fan of Barbra Streisand, I find this romantic comedy to be witty and intelligent. The acting is sensational on all fronts, especially from Barbra Streisand, Jeff Bridges and Lauren Bacall who are its standouts. The chemistry between Ms. Streisand and Mr. Bridges is perfect and their romantic scenes are wonderful to watch, especially the final scene.
Love it! February 27, 2008 Brenda A. (Florida) This is one of my favorite movies. I love the story line. It's entertaining and has a great ending.
Jeff Bridges at his best!!!!! February 16, 2008 L. G. Fontenot (Adkins, TX United States) I loved this movie. Barbara Streisand is an excellent actress and does herself proud. Jeff Bridges who in my opinion is one of the very best actors around and should have won an oscar for his role in this movie and also STARMAN. I think he has been overlooked or something. I love the expressions he can get on his face and he is a natural. I saw this on TV twice and just ordered the DVD. Its a keeper.....one I will watch over and over again.
Great movie.. brings me to tears - both sad & funny! February 16, 2008 Diana Afanassieva (Laval, Quebec) I never tire of watching this movie on TV. Bought it simply to know I could see it anytime at my leisure. This 'mind over matter' romance totally revolves on mutual respect and appreciation of each other without any sex and prove this type of relationship would last the longest. Well she realizes it's not enough and wants more but he balks at the idea at first. He acts upset and dissappointed that she wants to change all the rules of the game! She has to leave him to make him come to his senses and realize he loves her too. Barbara Streisand really showed me her acting ability in this movie. Hope you can enjoy it as much as I always do.
